I clean mine 100% after every range session even if it is less than 100 rounds. (minus the gas tube)
Lite BCG lube before going to range, and lite lube the entire rifle before storage. |
When it needs it.
In my environment, the outside gets dirty before the inside gets fouled from firing, so I am actually way over cleaning it...about once a week. If the outside didn't get dirty, a couple thousand rounds, at least, between cleanings. |
Fireclean
Wipdown every 1000 or so rounds, detail once a year in the winter, 3 gun off season. |
100% clean after every time it's fired, whether it's 1 round of 1000.
If I shoot it, I clean it after. Something I kept with me from the army.
I keep my agency rifle spotless. My others clean and lubed without going to extremes.
I know AR-15s are tough, but leaving it dirty even overnight will stay on my mind until I clean it. Prob the memories of the M4A3 I had in the Army that would ftl/fte like a cheap .22 715T Mossberg plinker I had.

Whenever I shoot any of my firearms I clean them thoroughly that same day. I'm sure it's not necessary but Ai like having them all nice and clean.
if i shoot it, it gets cleaned. no sense in keeping a dirty gun around. i may go 3 months without shooting sometimes. i'm not leaving a dirty ass gun in the safe. although it does smell good.
Usually every range trip. Sometimes I go 3 to 4 trip prior to cleaning.
Pre-range lube procedure just prior to each trip, every time. (but that is a whole different thread right?) |
I clean it after every single range trip no exceptions same goes with all the firearms I own. I could depend on anyone of them to protect myself at anytime and I want to make sure I have a clean weapon.

I almost never really fully clean them, the most abrasive thing that touches my guns is a shop rag. Maybe every 1k rounds or so I give them a basic inspection, yank out the BCG, quick wipe and check for anything out of the ordinary, all the lugs are there, check the gas rings, etc, glance in the lower for anything unusual, pour some oil on the BCG and toss it back in.

AR-15, when I get bored I clean it. Not after every range trip.
Carry gun, I clean it the same day I shoot it.
I clean after every firing session for all my rifles. Only exception is the .22 which shoots better "dirty"

Lot of OCD in this thread. Probably doing more harm than good to the firearms.
Depends on the AR
AR#1 is lucky of it gets cleaned at all. I run a boresnake through it from time to time and Brakeclean the BCG and inside the receiver. My carbine gets the same treatment every 500 or so rounds or if it feels a little sluggish. My midlength is a precision upper. It gets Wipeout and a boresnake every shooting session. No rods whatsoever. |
Every thousand rounds or so on the suppressed SBR, every two thousand or so on non suppressed guns though those don't get shot nearly as much.

I used to clean them after each firing session, but now I usually just give them a wipe down and put them back in the safe. I shot my Colt HBAR over the weekend and decided to clean it before I put it back up. It was so filthy and gunked up I don't know how it functioned. I ended up taking it completely apart because there was so much crud accumulated inside the lower. I bought that rifle new in 1991 and from the looks of it some of the crud under the trigger had been there that long.

After a thousand rounds or so. If it's one of my AR's that doesn't go outside and play very often than I'll clean those in the winter months when I wish I was shooting. I try and keep a log with dates in my range bag to kinda keep track of rounds fired and cleanings performed.
I usually clean all my guns within a few days of shooting them.
I have a man cave corner in my basement where i go to clean my weapons with a cup of coffee. I'm not OCD at all. Just like to keep my shit clean. |
on some, after every range trip and on others, never or at least not for several thousand rounds
I clean my AR15, XD40, and Kimber Solo every Saturday after shooting. Probably not necessary, just my preference.

Is it strange that I wipe mine down with microfiber and check oil coats daily?
After every shooting session the chamber and bore is cleaned, and after cleaning a boresnake. |
I perform PMCS weekly or so and thoroughly clean after every range event/time I fire it before securing it in my safe.
Mine get a light cleaning within a few days of shooting, mainly chamber and BCG, with rags and Q tips, then relube.
I dont often clean the bore (other than pass a bore snake through it). |
I'm going easy on the barrel for now on after doing some reading.
The copper brush soaked in barrel cleaner down the barrel 2 or 3 times, cotton brush soaked in barrel cleaner through barrel 10+, then cloth until dry, and finally a cloth soaked in lube to lube the barrel. (Just wanted to say lube again.)
I enjoy my alone time with my AR so I try to clean it after every trip to the range or hills, usually 100-200 rounds fired per outting. Sometimes I get lazy and skip it until the next time I go out but I do like a nice clean lubricated rifle.
how often is the gas tube cleaned ? or am i just supposed to replace it?
If I shoot it, I clean it. Put a new optic on it and shoot 15 or 20 rounds? It gets cleaned. Work up some new loads and shoot 20 or so? It gets cleaned.

View Quote delta5o1, I clean mine after every range secession even if it's less than 100 rounds. I admint it shouldn't take much even if you use a wet patch and rube it down. Impala |

I enjoy cleaning, so I give my rifle a thorough cleaning after ever trip to the range regardless of how many rounds I put through it.
Used to be super OCD about it, cleaning them every time I shot. 5 rounds or 500 rounds. These days I'm much more laid back and tend to clean them every couple of months. I do typically clean my .22's a bit more often because they'll start to fail sooner.
I know its not good to use the copper brush a lot, but I mainly stick to the cotton rod, old t-shirts, and the lube.
I rarely clean completely but will wipe down and oil the BCG when I think it needs it.
Honestly, unless it's been a very long day at the range, or snowing, raining ect, not that much.
Not very. I'd rather get hit in the mouth than clean a gun. I have to be really, REALLY, bored or the rifle has to be almost non-functioning before I can make myself spend the time to clean it.
