I am a new rifle owner, what is the best way to keep my rifle in best running condition?

Run it wet.  You will get lots of different opinions about what lube/cleaner/etc to use.  Some of the popular ones are CLP, Froglube, Fireclean...the list goes on and on.  Pick one and give it a try
