I bought one, works as advertised although a little spendy. Is compact and handy and if you have more than one AR it saves a little scraping time. I just give it a few twists and call it good, I'm not obsessive about it.

Since picking one up, I refuse to clean an AR w/out it. I'm probably a little too picky about stuff being clean and this tool makes it a breeze to clean the bolt and carrier.

I have one. Always use it at every cleaning session. It is NOT required. There are thousands of ways to clean a BCG. It's strong point is providing the ability to maintain tolerances of your bolt and in cleaning the recesses in the carrier. Probably worth the $$.

Saw one demo'd at the last SAR show. Ordered Monday, got today.
Works damn well, fits in the stock trap. The hex bit driver hole is a handy design feature. Very happy with it, worth the money. |

Bought one simply because my armorer is an incompetent tool. It works great and I'm quite the fan. Were it not for stupid army white glove inspection cleanings, I would not have bought one as I really don't see it being necessary but it does work as advertised.

When they do the white glove inspection, do they actually check the inside of the carrier. and bolt tail? Good lord!! |

White glove is every inspection due to poorly trained and led E2 armorers, and yes, they check there any everywhere else. These are the same people that think anodizing is "carbon" and shiny bare metal = clean |

Been using one for years and they make them just up the road from me. IIRC they've just dropped the price about $5.

All carbon and finish must be removed from the bolt tail to pass annual inspection. |

Like the other folks here, bought one and love it. Makes short work of cleaning up the bolt and carrier. Fast, simple, easy to use, does a great job, what's not to like! As far as cost, the time savings alone will pay for it in a short time. Besides who doesn't like more good tools!!!!!!!

I really don't see the purpose of scraping a chrome surface with a hard steel tool to remove carbon buildup that doesn't matter. Best case, it's a waste of time, worst case, you start gouging out the chrome.
Same with the bolt tail. Not to sound like a dick or anything, but I'm guessing that most people who think cleaning the caked on carbon is necessary don't truly understand how the AR system works. |

However some of us have to deal with such people and have no other choice but to satisfy them with as little damage to the weapon as possible. |

FNC80 loaned me one yesterday to try out. I already have the Brownells/Sinclair Bolt carrier recess carbon scraper which works good for heavy carbon build up but will not remove it all.
With the CAT tool my first impression is the part for scraping the bolt tail is much sharper than the pics I saw online had lead me to believe. I tried it on an already "cleaned" BCG which i had not bothered to commit to the work necessary to remove the carbon from the bolt tail. The CAT tool does remove the built up carbon from the bolt tail and does so very quickly. Better than any other scraper type tools I have tried in the past to include stripper clips, dental pics, screwdrivers and brass/phospher brushes. The CAT tool does not do a very good job in the bolt carrier recess though. The brownells/sinclair tool works much better for that. I'll be buying a CAT tool just to use for busting heavy carbon build up off the tail of dirty bolts. |

I have found that if you take a large patch from an Otis kit, the round ones, and put it onto the CAT's internal carrier scraper, it works very well at clearing the rest of the shit out |

I have one on my bench and one in my range bag. I really like the tool. Then again, I like to keep my firearms clean. The gentleman (Sam) that invented / makes the tool seems like a good guy too!

OK stupid question here, but can this tool cause scrapping or gouging to your bolt carrier recess or bolt tail?
