Thanks for the lubrication cards, I had them printed at Costco and then laminated at Staples, $10.00 well spent.

These charts are great, but I heard that you can put too much lube on these, that it will cause it to attract residue. Do you think that lubing these areas will cause residue to stick more on these parts any more than they do already? I have used lube on the rails and it my M4 worked great. Thank you for time.

Nice to see me lightly oiling the buffer spring and the locking lugs is actually the correct thing to do, I've seen people say that oiling your locking lugs will cause a k boom.

Was thinking it would help if the lube with oil or lube with grease could be inserted on the lube points, I use grease on the hammer face, not oil. Just my way of doing it.

Just purchased my first AR15, and haven't worked on one since I was in the Army 20 years ago. Have to say that this is one of the best things I have found for cleaning. Thanks for putting these together, will have to get them printed on some nice stock and laminated to put into my case.

Excellent information. If you do not have a membership to the AR15.com forum and have found information that has helped you, I highly suggest paying for a membership to help support this place to help keep it going. I have personally saved way more than the cost of my membership due to the help and information I have received from this site which is why I am now a gold member.
Thanks a TON for posting this. I made copies of the pictures to my computer for quick and easy access to it and will be making a printout for my personal reference. I will NOT post the pictures anywhere and no else should either (unless you get permission to do so first). I would like to continue to get great information like this and if people do that then we won't be seeing these very useful posts. I just wanted to say that to try and prevent people from doing something that would prevent people from posting such helpful information.   If you want to help other people out with this information, just provide them with a link to it. 
I just received my Aero Precision X15 Lower yesterday with a lpk. This information is a huge help. I've been researching information for about 2 months and this is the best information about lubing my AR that I have seen. I really appreciate all of the help this forum has given me, which is why I am now a gold member. As this forum has thousands of people that have built their own AR's, I have found it to be the BEST place to get help from knowledgeable people. While everyone may not agree on everything, I can still get great recommendations and then decide for myself which product (or in the case method) to use. |

Good chart. Used to use Wilson ultra lube on my 1911's when I shot IPSC. Times have changed of course. As a matter of fact, that's when you couldn't buy high-cap mags, one or two came with my P14 with a coupon that by one more, I think. High-caps mags we're as srare as someone in Macon with a job. What the best lube, or combination to minimize wear? Thanks by the way.

Best practice is to completely field strip it, detail strip the bolt, wipe everything down very well, clean the bore with cleaning patches, relubricate everything with the oil of your choice according to the guide in this post, and reassemble.
At a bare minimum, run a patch down the bore before first shots. |

To get a larger laminated poster of the cleaning points you can copy the images to a thumb drive and go to Kinkos or a UPS shop that does printing and have them enlarge and laminate copies.

Basically what I get out of this thread is to lubricate the whole damn thing.
 I'm pretty sure I over oil just about everything. Sure makes for some nice smoke once you get the barrel heated up after running a few mags full of ammo through it.
