Howdy,

my bolt carrier has a crack in it, as marked in the picture. I got the crack while it being outside the firearm and it goes fully through the carrier lower end part. Is this carrier still usable, or should i go for a replacement?

Safe bet to just go and buy a new one. Why run the risk, when BCs are plentiful?

That carrier is now a "spare", buy a new one.

No need for a replacement.  Colt's made bunches of "C" carriers to clear a sear block.

Your taking the fun out of it, and envisioned going buck wild to see just how light I could lighten the carrier up if I got in in my hands instead.

Figure I could knock off a few more OZ then your lightened carrier in the end (read C-6 carbide index-able end mills/ lathe tools will cut through hardened steel like it's butter).

I am curious to know if you actually went and shot you ultralight bcg, and if so, how has it held up? (round count?)

If you want to dice one up for me I'll drop a spare in the mail.  When it's done I would put it in my next bump gun build and run it pretty hard.  I would have chopped one up myself but I don't have a good mill

No one has ever been maimed by a detonating Ar, and a crack in that section won't detonate the rifle.
