above center is problem round, right one is 2nd which I cycled out and left is 3rd which I cycled out. My Mag top was covered in carbon also. Yes I know use another round, but that's not really an option. |

Got to ask, was the last time the rig was cleaned during the Holy Wars???????
Give me a round count since correctly cleaned, to the point that the rifle saw this ammo. With the amount of soot, and a low round count since correctly cleaned, then you have cases that at KB'g and the reason for all the soot in not only the action, but the chamber as well (read could be a head space problem, causing the ammo to go over standard working pressures and why the cases are splitting). Or, if this rig is running a suppressor, could explain some of the soot if a high round count since cleaning, and the problems at hand (over function, fouled chamber causing short stroking). |

Believe It or not, it gets cleaned to a shine every time. The soot/carbon you see is due to the round failure. I squeezed the trigger, round fired and I got a regular report however at the same time it was white smoke time. Afterwards I cleared x 3 dropped the mag and functioned checked everything as well as checked the bore. Like I wrote, it has happened to me with LC XM193 before. As the pics show the shell casing is damaged at the primer crimp and at the neck. I don't rapid fire but that was about the 4th mag midway thru.
And KBG's? |

on r guns website, they say there is a recall on some lake city ammo. i would check into that.
this is on another forum, ill try to find out more. "Federal/Lake City XM193 5.56 ammo currently available on the civilian market has been found to have severe QC issues. Overpressure has caused destruction of gas rings, FTE/broken/jammed shell in chamber, damage to internals, primers have also been falling out of the pocket with jostling. The exact manufacture dates are unknown at this time. Weapons covered by civilian warranties damaged by this ammo will not be covered by most companies if you acknowledge that you have used this ammo." that was posted 3 days ago, seems like you got a bad batch possibly. trying to find official info. |

i emailed atk corporate for lake city and they told me this and pointed to federals page. im glad they are taking a sample from you. i read several posts from various talking about that ammo and issues. i would still check the gun to be sure cause nobody wants something next to their face to explode in a shower of shrapnel.
"Thank you for your inquiry. There are no current recalls for XM193. The following link provides the most current information regarding consumer product warnings. http://www.federalpremium.com/whats_new/safety_notice.aspx" so i hope it turns out is the ammo and not the rifle, i happen to have some of the type of recall on that list .45 i gotta check my boxes now. |

As an update I went thru my entire stock of ammo. I checked every ammo can and magazine. I found only another 7 of the same round. They were all stamped LC 91 with the circle and cross. All my other LC XM193 is lot 417 or 217. Unfortunately I made several mass purchases before the price went up. I do not have the lot number for these 7 rounds. I will send this information to Trevor at Federal however I will not be sending it in. The cost of sending it as ORMD thru UPS is not worth it for 7 rounds. Instead I will take it to a friend who is an instructor and have him pull the bullets and weigh the powder on 3. The remaining 4 we will chrono and report the results to Federal. Hopefully this will help.

Keep us up to date on this. I have a couple cases of this ammo. I have also had issues of the bullet making contact with the lead/rifling of one of my rifles and then causing me to have to pull the charging handle and buttstroke against something at the same time to extract the round.

I will. Man thats a good way of breaking that handle. I'm assuming you can't push out the shell from the muzzle side. |

Yea not a possibility at the end of a stage at a competition or in the middle if the round is a dud. I try to keep the pull in line and not torque to any direction. |
