ETA- I read too fast, I thought you meant you couldn't get the bolt to close on a round...

Probably a short stroking issue.
Its not the guy that walks in with a gun and says he is going to start shooting that you have to worry about.
Its the guy that just walks in and just starts shooting.

Short stroking for sure.

Did you change the ammo you were using before?

Sounds like short stroking. Will it chamber with the charging handle? If not break it down and look at the chamber bore closely.

Short stroke. Did you accidentally install a rifle buffer spring in place of a carbine buffer spring?

Check gas rings on the bolt inside the bolt carrier. They will look like 3 little rings of shinny metal.

Before taking it apart a good test is pulling the bolt out as far as it will go and seeing if it will stay in place. Place it on a flat surface with the bolt facing down. The weight of the carrier should not let the carrier slide down.

Bring us up to speed on what you are cleaning and lubing the rifle, how you are cleaning it (such as a chamber brush by hand), the configuration of the rifle and brand type, and just where/ how the failure to feed and lock the bolt home jam is happening (such as the bolt behind the rim, the bolt on top of the middle of the case, and the position of the bullet tip to the chamber as well.

To add, what type of ammo as well (such as brass case factory, or steel case factory, or your or someone elses reloads.

How old is the rifle, and has anything been changed as far as rifle components or ammo?

Description of rifle configuration (and pics if possible) may also be a help.
