The pig tail slowed down the dwell of the gas pressure, allowing the bolt more time to unlock,
and get the spent case out of the chamber more gently. The stove piping was caused in the first place by the bolt/extractor dropping the spent case before the end of reward stroke, and either a $.10 #60 O-ring around the extractor spring to add more tension, or a stronger M-4 extractor spring (a few bucks) would have solved the problem as well. Bottom line here, you had too much gas (guessing over sized gas port), rough chamber, or questionable extractor (burred) Or extractor spring that was not up to pair. As for where Pig tail gas tubes really come into there own, it's own 10.5" barrel since they are very ammo picky due to the limited amount of barrel after the gas port. anywhere else, way, way cheaper options are often used to solve the problem at hand. |
