For those of you with the plain old 20" rifle, how happy are you with the accuracy? Is 1.5 MOA a pretty regular occurrence? Any improvement after installing a free float tube?

I'm thinking about getting one to use as a semi-auto DMR of sorts. My AI AE handles the precision side for me

I would at the very least free flaot it to ensure consistant accuracy. Shouldn't coust more than $250 if you go the rail option route.....

Look in the AR10 section here for Armalite free-float tubes. If you are just benching, target shooting, the free float tubes are light, strong and have been selling for under $60... Cant beat that!

I recently purchased the A4 20" w/ chrome lined barrel. I quickly replaced the handgaurds w/ a freefloat tube. Never benched it but I shoot appleseed type targets with it and prone using a sling no problems on the 400 yard targets w/ Malaysian mil surp. I did shoot it before I free floated and accuracy was still phenomenal. The position of the sling swivel way out at the end of the handgaurd was not comfortable for me. I was also afraid of deflecting the barrel with sling tension so opted for the freefloat tube. Once I am confident I can hit a man sized target out to 500 yds w/ milsurp and irons I intend to scope it and try out some match ammo.

Didn't exactly answer your question but I did get to talk about a rifle I am very satisfied with.

I've never met an AR-10A4 that Could Not shoot multiple 5-shot groups less than 1" @ 100yds with factory fodder that it liked.

I've had more than a few since 1999. Every da-da-damn one shot under 0.75" 5-shot groups.

1) Most people can't shoot

2) ARMALITE double handed-lapped chrome-liined barrels have majiks. Even the one that was ripping heads off, headspace was da-da-damn near 30-06 spec, was sub-0.75" @ 100yds.

The replacement that Richard Clancey handbuilt was laserbeamz.

But, the latest 10A4 bought during the 2010 4th of July Sale is doing multiple 5-shot groups @ 100yds in the 0.375" range with many sub 3/8".
The scope is a Burris FF II Tactikewl in O.D. 3-9x40, fired by my brother. I added the $80 ARMALITE FFHG.

Sounds like what I'm looking for The Armalite tube is what I had in mind as well. I've got a Weaver Tactical 3-15x50 that's not on anything right now that I'll use until I can afford the SN3 I want.

Here's my Carbine. I had it free floated with one of Armalite's fiberglass tubes, it made no difference in group size off sandbags, if you sling up, it probably will. It was heavy so I went with a Moe, which I really like.

Two consecutive groups shot to compare Win vs. Tula primers.

I love the smell of gunpowder, avgas & women.

Is the gas block on the same plane as the upper, or would I need sights designed specifically for the AR10?

I have the rifle with Armalite non-freefloat railed hanguards.
It is 1.5 to 2 inches depending on ammo. When using 168 gr Federal GMM and Prvi Match it is better.
About to upgrade the stock trigger to a Geissele and that should help.

My first Armalite was an AR10A4 that I bought over 10 years ago. I still love it.

I recently picked up an AR10T. It's even better.
