Which AR-10 is most accurate?
Mine. 20" AR-10A4 for best bang for the buck. I have posted that I have never seen one NOT shoot less than 1" @ 100yds 5shot groups with fodder that it liked. I would say sub-0.75" has been the norm for me having gone through 4 or 5 of them since 1999. My latest A4 likes BH 168gr NBT. Never had one like it before... Hornady Custom 150gr SST has always been majic in all of them. I also have a 24" T and 20" T. Best Bang - 20" A4... and the Ts are lasers. |

I've been eyeballing the RRA Lar-8 Predator HP as it states that it will give you 1 moa out of the box. I also hear good things out of the Armalite. What I don't want is the heavy bull barrel as weight is something that I really don't want. I'm expecting to pay in the $1500 range, so what do you suggest? Well, if you want an AR-10, the LAR-8 is out since it's not an AR-10, it's an LAR-8. And my AR10s are more accurate than Dave's.

I have several Armalite AR 10s and they are great. I also have a Rock River LAR 8 Standard Operator wich is just as accurate as any of my AR 10s, The RR is fantastic except it weighs 10.4 Lbs which is heavy as hell for a 20" gun. Fun to shoot but I would not like to hump it around all day.
But if I run out of ammo is a SHTF sit I will have a monster club to swing. I may see if Rock River has a set of training wheels for it. Easier to carry around |

I have an older AR-10T, back when they came with the 24" Lothar barrels. When I am having a good day it is a solid MOA shooter and even sub moa if I can keep the eyes focused at the 300 yard line... I had a DPMS LR-308 and it couldn't hold under 2 MOA no matter what tips I tried or adjusted. But that was 4 or 5 years ago
See if you can find an older 24" model and you will have an excellent target rifle. Heavy, but if you are shooting prone or off the bench, who cares!! |

I know I stereotyped the "ar-10", so I will rephrase: Does anyone know which is the better .308, the ar-10(t) or lar-8 predator hp? I'm talking the whole package for out of the box (new, as I want to be the one to break it in) use with only adding a scope & back-up iron's. Use will be target, hunting, coyotes & other varmints, zombies, etc....
Thanks for the answers so far... |

Me personally I would stay away from the LAR-8 because of all the problems the earlier design had. Also FAL mags are not that cheap anymore so the luster IMHO on the design has dulled. Also the mag release is not the AR type but the FAL type due to the mag. If I were buying another .308 AR I would only consider Armalite or the LMT. I really like the KAC EMC but I can't justify paying that much money when other ARs will shoot just as well. Building is another option too...

Let me guess, you've never even touched one but you're going to give us your expert opinion on them? The Mag relase is nothing like the FAL's, it is identical to an AR but improved in that it is ambi. It also has the finger operated bolt catch/release which is a big plus not found on other "AR-10s". |

Got Both. Both are very accurate. Like my LAR 8 Standard Operator. Just need someone to carry it around for me. 10.4 Lbs is great for the range but Hell to carry for a while. MY AR10A4SF is more accurate than I and I can carry it around all day. I use my LAR 8 when I work out at home for overhead presses.

He never asked for an expert to opine did he? He asked for opinoins and he got mine. You don't have to be an "expert" to see all of the problems with the earlier rifle by Bushmaster. I remember that and I would not drop my hard earned money one. I looked at one in a gun shop and I didn't remember seeing a traditional AR mag release, so my bad on that one. My expert opinoin on the mags stand as well. I did'nt know you had to be an expert to opine around here and I certainly didn't know I need your permission to post....

About a week ago i was in your same shoes.. debating over the Armalite AR-10 and the RRA LAR 8. I ended up with the new Armalite AR10 A.
Love that it takes the old mags and the Magpul PMAG 308 (lot less expensive) Found a local dealer with one in stock and got an great deal on it too. |

G.A. Precision GAP-10
http://www.gaprecision.net/ga-precision-2012-custom-rifles/ga-precision-g.a.-precision-gap-10-.html Do some research on G.A. Precision and any of their rifles (bolt or semi), it doesn't get much better. Current wait without custom finish / barrel fluting is 2-4 months. -J |

heggissvi, I have a question, I often see groups like this posted on articles showing accuracy, and it is a good group. But why not in the black ? Isn't the goal to hit the center of the target? I've never asked but maybe you can tell me why.

Yup was aiming for the black. This was my first time shooting that far, 550yd is the max distance I normally get to shoot to. I was testing 175gr SMK grouping for shorter distances when got the opportunity to go shoot to the military range. So I had my gun sighted in at 220yd and not actually sure what speeds the bullets were leaving the barrel. Sure I'd chronoed them but don't trust chrono that much, and as we can see, it was hitting little low. I've now adjusted my table for the correct speed and now should hit the center. From 220yd to 890yd had to adjust 188 clicks up, but was only 184 because of the old chart.
Yes that is a "lucky" group, usually the gun runs about 1moa (with 20 shots), but still was surprised for that distance. Oh well tomorrow shooting to 1100yd, we'll see what happens when those bullets fall subsonic Also ppl might shoot multiple groups to a single target so you can find the groups all around the target. |
