Armalite = Best. Most of the major parts will have to be sourced from the same manufacturer as the Lower and Upper. A lot of minor parts are interchangeable. Read the FAQ's

Knights are also of the highest quality, but expensive and hard to get. All others pretty much run third, as long as you stay with a DI style .308 rifle.

While I have and love an Armalite AR10, the new LM308MWS looks to be a phenomenal rifle. Wont be building it though....

I'm thinking about the CMMG G-3 lower w/a DPMS upper so I can use alll the cheap HK mags out there.

uh-huh

no bolt hold back, have to mod the upper.

for the price you could get a AR-10 and 10 steel mags that would last forever. You cna have all the G3 mags out there but you can only carry 5-8 at the most with gear.

For the love of god i can't figure out why someone would put the mag before the gun, YMMV and all that stuff.

OP for a build

look at the EE and the board vendors, also hawk the armalite sales

get a lower and LPK add a stock of your choice

look on the EE for a used/new upper for the cheap

modify that upper as you will

get on the armalite mag sale, and get 5 mags to start

that would be the cheapest, but the longest to get a AR-10

if you go the DPMS route, go find a cheap basic one, then mod it as you wish. There are a lot of them sitting on the shelf right now.

panic and mass hysteria seem to be a marketing tool these days...

Cheap mags make it a no brainer for the DPMS/ Larue OBR, LMT, Knights based guns. It makes no sense to pay 40 bucks for a mag these days.

I'd go with an armalite compatable system to build on if you want to assemble it yourself. If you wanted to buy one and had the cash I'd look hard at the larue or kac guns.

I'd go with a standard armalite ar-10 lower but you can get nice billet ones. Iron Ridge Arms makes a billet one for instance. Armalite puts the mags on sale from time to time and at the end of last year the 25 round mags were like 22.50 a peice. I picked up a few then and will prob pick up some more if they do it again. You then grab a armalite parts kit with either a standard or 2 stage trigger. For uppers you can buy an armalite or noveske upper or get an upper reciever and build your own.
