Thanks for the links. Will the DPMS AR15 tool work on an AR10 with free float handguards?

PRI offers both, so does DPMS. I ordered mine from DPMS and am waiting on them to arrive next week.

PRI Vise Block
PRI Barrel Wrench

DPMS Barrel Wrench
DPMS Vise Block

I just found out tonight that PRI offers the barrel wrench...wish I would have known that as it looks like a better tool than what is offered by DPMS.

Got the wrench and vise block from PRI today. Vise block is nice. It's made of aluminum and fits both AR15/AR10. Wrench is nice too. Four pegs and it worked perfectly to put the Noveske barrel and Larue rail on my upper.

That type of block is not intended for doing barrel work. They are OK for cleaning, mounting optics and general maintenance, but not re-barreling. I've seen receivers that were damaged/destroyed by using those blocks.

What is the correct block then? Where can it be ordered?

I put the receiver in the vise sideways with a block on the other end and it works fine.

Bushmaster also sells an action block set for .308 actions, P/N OM-004. They may get it to you sooner than Armalite. I used it to swap out the A2 upper for an A4 on my carbine and it fit and worked perfectly. The previous poster was correct though. If you use the block you have, put it's bottom against one vise jaw and the receiver top against the other, padded of course. Obviously this won't work with an A2 receiver.

Seems that part number does not work on their website. However one can select the OM-003 part number (action block for AR15/M16) and select the 308 Option in the checkout area of their website.

I have the 308 receiver vise block from Bushmaster & it works great.

Slash, when you say that you have seen uppers damaged by the typpe of block that utilized the two pin holes, where these the typep that had the ppiece that also goes in the side the receiver, like "the claw" one? I have had so many people swear that they use these to change barrels.

Some people also swear that using two 2x4s is the way to go. I don't recommend it. Using that WECSOG technique sent at least one guy to the hospital.

There is no substitute for having the correct tools for the job.
