I have some stuck parts. Ejection Port Detents, Front Sights, and a Forward Assist. Are there any alternatives to Kroil, as it's pretty pricey for the big stuff.

50/50 ATF and acetone.

Works better, cheaper, smells worlds better.

PBlaster works pretty good, I have used diluted white vinegar in the past to break things free and get rid of rust.

There's a story here isn't there...Care to share so we can learn from it?

A heavy coat with something like remoil soaking overnight may work, as well as Break Free.  PB Blaster may also get the job done but you may want to be careful about how it may impact finishes.

Can you disassemble the components at all?

Kroil is worth it, they run specials all the time.

It's not that good of a story.

The front sight part was part of an Hbar A2 I got for stupid cheap. The only problem was that it had a little rust on the end cap and the front sight post was frozen. I got the upper with bcg ch for around fifty more than the A2 upper only was worth.

The forward assist and dust cover were stripped from a Surplus A1 and they move, but are noticeably stuck? retarded? Slow? Lethargic?  Oh and rear sight assembly.

Gibbs penetrating spray or fluid
Is absolutely the best , can find on internet and some gun shows
A little expensive but last a long time

At those prices, it'd better be  $22 a can, egads.

Get on Kroils mailing list, they'll send you out a blurb every few months that usually has some great sale prices/2 for 1 deals on it. It's pretty decently priced if you just do it that way.

Gibbs, PB-Blaster, or JB80 are all great alternatives to Kroil.

Stop by your local auto parts or hardware store and ask about penetrating oil, the kind used to loosen rusted parts, frozen bolts, etc.  WD-40 and 3in1 Penetrant come to mind. - CW

Except WD-40 sucks, in my experience, as a penetrating fluid. It works fine as a light lubricant, but not as a penetrant.

Yep, not designed as a penetrating oil. WD meaning water displacer.

Acetone/ATF 50/50, Kroil, and PB Blaster are all available and will do the trick.

Liquid Wrench works better than Kroil.  PB Blaster is a very close second.

Kroil is junk.  I was given a gallon of it.  I had an Armalite barrel that was almost junked because the bore was coppered and turned green from not being cleaned and left in a humid environment.  A bore brush or cleaning rod would not go in, it was THAT bad.  I soaked the barrel in Kroil for days and the crap would not budge.  I gave the rest of the gallon to my neighbor.

As a last resort I filled the barrel with Liquid Wrench and left it overnight.  The bore brush breezed through the barrel leaving a pile of debris.  Luckily it was a chrome lined bore and was not damaged.  I still shoot that barrel many years later.

Thanks, wild.  I think I'm gonna try Liquid Wrench.  Kroil was never intended to remove copper fouling, but does a decent job of flushing out combustion products. - CW

For some things, I don't think you can beat Kroil.  It "creeps" into spaces that penetrating oils can't even see.

And Kroil is offering a pretty darn good deal right now.  Those King Size cans will last for generations of home gunsmithing.

Agreed. I know it's primarily used in the industry, we use cases of it at US Steel as well as Blaster. I know that mech guys on oil platforms primarily use it for the reason above, and who deal with extreme corrosion. Cheaper but ranks right below ATF/acetone mix in a few tests.

Edit: says right on the can good for cleaning guns geez, don't worry about that.

Another good penetrating oil is Mouse Milk.

I've used it to loosen stuck fasteners on aircraft (along with Kroil) for the past 20 years.
