Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - Mega Upper Receiver Question

I put together a 20" gov't profile rifle upper yesterday using a Mega upper. What is the small hole just above the hole where the gas tube enters the upper? Looks like it was meant to be there, but I haven't used Mega before and was curious.

Some handguards use a small dowel to line up the receiever and handguard perfectly.
