I'm nearing the completion of my 1st build and I have decided on a 16" barrel. I was hoping to get a BCM, but they only have the 1-7 twist rate. I was leaning more toward a wylde 1-8 or 9 but im open to suggestions. It will be a mostly recreational rifle that I will enjoy at the range.  So any suggestions would be appreciated even on the twist rate. Im looking for a good range of ammo with different grains so I could get a good feel for this.  Also I wouldn't want to spend an arm and a leg for it perhaps around $250.00.

Here is a picture of what I'm working with currently.

Check out Green Mountain Barrels. Great barrels at a great price.

Faxon has  nice 1:8 options in your price range. I recently completed a build with a pencil barrel,  and it seems to do quite well. Good reviews can be found for it and the Gunner variation.

There are a wide range of barrels available for less than $250 that would be more than acceptable for a recreational/general purpose and defensive rifle. Faxon, Ballistic Advantage, and many others. Some are relatively inexpensive and accurate. You can check Aim Surplus, Red Barn Armory, and other vendors that advertise on this site.

Not a huge fan of the wylde chamber as I have seen it cause reliability problems.

Would it be better to have a 5.56 chamber and still shoot .223?

Not only is this my first build, i'm new to rifes as well. All I currently have are pistols..

Why doesn't my image show up like this? I use the Mountain Image on the tags and it shows up in my preview, just doesnt show up when I look at the forum.

I can see your pics.  Your post count is too low.  Your images you post have to be approved by a moderator or 3 paying members.  Once you get over 50 posts, they will show up as soon as you post.

Yes, .223 works fine from a 5.56 barrel.

What muzzle device are you using on that?  Looks nice

Think I found it - it's a Griffin flash comp, right?

Got a chance to shoot my 16" Faxon GUNNER. Nice and light, flat shooting, can't wait to do another build with one. And yes, that's a Griffin Armament M4SD2 FlashComp.

I just got one of those too but won't be able to shoot it until this weekend. I hear nothing but good things about their barrels, so fingers crossed...
