Hi, I just finished a build and used a lower quality buffer tube, can anyone recommend a buffer tube that is well made and looks a bit more custom? I have seen the PWS buffer and it looks like great quality.

It's nothing fancy but it's 14 bucks (with 50% off promo) for 7075.

The pws appears to be 10 times as much.

Eta: nevermind on the 50% off, I was mistaken. 28 bucks still isn't bad though

I buy receiver extensions from people like BCM.  If BCM says it's a MIL-SPEC extension, it's not just "mil-spec diameter," and that's important to me.

Deciding something is "lower quality" because it was inexpensive is not always accurate.  Who you bought it from, and whether it meets expected dimensional standards is a better gauge.

From their web site...

Five position receiver extension made from impact extruded 7075 T6 aluminum
Hard coat anodized
Positions are numbered and are visible through the witness hole on most stocks
Snag-free sliding of the buttstock

Impact extrusion is the way MIL-SPEC receiver extensions are supposed to be made.  They're also supposed to be made from 7075 alloy.

Or am I missing something?

Not according to Bravo Company....

For your AR15, M16, M4. Carbine receiver extension (buffer tube) machined from 7075T6 and manufactured to Mil-Spec dimensions and specifications. Mil-Spec receiver extensions have a slightly smaller dimension where the stock slides on.
Hard Coat Anodized per Mil-A-8625F, Type III, Class 2
These tubes should be used with stocks such as USGI, BCM, Colt, LMT, SOPMOD, VLTOR, Stag Arms, Magpul CTR (Milspec), and others that a made to the Mil-Spec size.

I like my spike's buffer tube. The B5 Bravo Sopmod stock fits nice and tight on it, but still adjusts easily. Battlelink Minimalist felt almost liked a fixed stock, Magpul CTR fit so well, that the friction lock did nothing.

I use "cheap" tubes... usually Anderson. They are milspec dimensionally and 7075T6, stocks lock up tight on them. At $15-$20 each I save money to put into better buffers and springs.

ALG has one on sale this weekend.

Milspec all the way...cold rolled threads, forged tube, 7075 T6, dry film lube, etc.

What do you think they are machined from? Impact extrusions.

I can guarantee you they are not machined from billet.

LWRC has nice ones and sells them on their website, has drain holes. They look, feel and fit the way they should. 35 bucks. It's what I use.
