This thread got me thinking out of the box and gave me the courage to also try something different in the face of overwhelming dissenting opinion.  Use my 1x4-24mm WITH my 1x32mm red/green dot.  I was able to co-witness the two sights but the 1-4x24mm didn't have enough eye relief and I wasn't getting a good sight picture.

So I needed to shorten the eye relief on the front optic, I thought about flipping the rings on my 1-4x24mm but got the bright idea of swapping the 1x32mm with the 1-4x24mm.  Win.  I think I have enough space to mount a magnifier between my two optics.  That would totally rock.

First...lol because the above post is fucking hilarious.

And second, to the OP, good for you for trying something that made sense to you at the time. Glad to see you dropped some of that shit off your rifle before shooting it. I think a lot of people get carried away with putting shit on their rifles then start chucking it as soon as they try shooting with it. It's exciting (I get it) but you don't want to over complicate things. Decide how you want to use the rifle, set it up accordingly, stick with it and train with it.

If you feel left out, build another rifle to fill that gap. I've got one AR that has magnified optics and a bipod and a second AR that has a red dot and a forward grip. Both fill a basic need and I can always change them around if I want to. My next build will probably be large frame AR for longer range stuff. Or maybe a dedicated 9mm AR pistol just because Quarter Circle 10 lowers awesome. Find a need and build a rifle to fill that need.

My basic point is that there is a reason that you see so many people with several rifles and "KISS" type threads here and other gun websites....people shoot their guns and realize that they are dragging around a ton of useless shit. Don't get caught up in trying to have one gun that does everything, that's not going to happen and you'll just end up with one gun that does everything poorly.

Hope that makes sense

Rich, I thought you were going to try your original setup at the range? Looks like you removed the green dot?

It will be interesting to see how  or if your groups tighten up when you get the Pepr mount.

Were you shooting off-hand, or off of a bench with rifle stabilized on sand bags etc?

I spent more time making sure my scope was sighted in properly so I will admit that for the majority of the time I was shooting I was using a bench rest to keep my gun stabilized. However, I did shoot both from sitting/standing unsupported and received similar results and you can see a few rounds just on the edge of the upper right hand target where I was getting my breathing down.

I tell you that Vortex scope is money! Very easy to sight-in and has a great eye relief.
