Not really looking to do a custom barrel but I am not finding what I am looking for in an off the shelf barrel.

5.56 NATO or Wylde
16" length
CMV, stainless might work
muzzle threaded for flash hider
1:12 twist, preferred but no faster than 1:9
HBAR profile
Melonite/nitro-carburized, QPQ preferred
Mid length gas port
M4 feed ramps

No fluting or fancy stuff.

The only one I have found so far is in the ARFCOM OnLine store.

Any other sources for a barrel like this?

Is there a reason you want such a fast twist?

1:10 and 1:11 are very rare for 5.56 barrels.

ETA: I've run 36gr Varmint Grenades through  a 1:6 twist and they all made it to the target.  Normally I prefer a 1:8 twist and use bullets from the heavier side though.

Actually they are slower twists.

1 in 7 means that there is one complete rotation in 7 inches of forward travel.

I shoot only XM193 so there is no need to have a twist faster than 1:12 unless I plan to go to Siberia. :)

Sorry, I said that wrong.  Slower is correct.  I see no detriment to running a 1:8 though.

imo 1:8 is ok for xm193 and i would look at this as it fits all but the twist rate on your list for $100

I appreciate the replies and I am sure that you are intending to be helpful. Lets not turn this into a twist discussion.

There is a barrel in the ARFCOM Online store that meets all of the requirements, especially the 1:9 twist so it is not that I cannot find a barrel. I am looking for others for comparison.

Handy link to 1:9 twist, 16", mid length heavy barrel in ARFCOM store

A recommendation on the ARFCOM store barrel from someone that has one or one like it would be helpful too.

All the barrels I've bought from Del-Ton are not chrome lined (16" carbine M4, 20" pencil, 16 " mid-length govt., 20" HBAR) all 1 in 9 twist.

Surprisingly accurate. Fit and finish is superb. Customer service is great!

This seems to match your specs!

No worries. I really appreciate the effort.

The Faxxon looks interesting but unfortunately is 1:8.

fatcat4620, The one from JSE unfortunately is also 1:8.

I would rather have 16" but if there was an 18" that was 1:10 twist I would probably not be able to turn it down. It would shoot a little flatter although I am not looking to shoot beyond 200 yards/meters.

If I drop the flash hider and do not put a muzzle break on it, just a thread protector, an 18" would be about the same as a 16" with one. Next time I shoot will be with no break. I don't like the blowback anyway. The muzzle energy of a 5.56 NATO is about the same as a 44 Magnum which I never minded. And since the AR is heavier and sholdered it would be considerably less.

The ARFCOM store barrel is still the only one in the right configuration tat I have found. Anyone have any first hand experience with these barrels or know who makes them?

Try using this search engine tool
Change the 1:9 to 16" or whatever you want.
I didn't see many results looking for 1:10 or 1:11

I know you said no fluting, but with your criteria I'd consider this one from YDM.

Thanks and I really appreciate all the help. I am new to ARs so I don't know all the 'usual places' to look for stuff so it really helps.

I don't necessarily dislike fluting I just don't see a need for it and didn't want to pay for something for which I assign no value. The function of fluting is to reduce weigh and add strength or in this case may (also) be decorative.

That being said it looks pretty nice. The listing doesn't say but to my eye it looks to be a carbine length gasser rather than mid.

ETA, I called YHM. All of their 16" barrels are for carbine length gas systems.

It's got the same problem all the other good barrels in this thread have.  It's 1:8 twist (which doesn't really matter because he's only shooting M193 - which isn't accurate enough to tell the difference between a 1:12 twist or 1:7 twist barrel).

jaqufrost, You are partially correct. XM193 is not a particularly accurate cartridge. It is adequate for my needs as I shoot only offhand and only to 200 yards/meters or less, mostly less, so there is not a need to pursue 1 MOA or better accuracy.

cda97, The BCM barrel looks nice, thanks for posting.

The barrel I am shooting now is 1:7 (attached to a BCM upper) so there is not a lot of motivation to spend money to go only to 1:8.

I do have a Mega Arms billet upper that is very lonely though.

I have looked at Hart, Krieger. Lilja, Pac Nor, and Integrity Arms, sent and email to McGowen and will contact Douglas tomorrow.

Some of the premium barrel makers had slower twists, one even had 1:12, but I am not prepared to spend $500 + the cost to have it Melonited for a barrel at this point.

For those of you who helped with my search, many thanks!!!!

To recap, I was looking for a barrel with the following attributes:

5.56 NATO or Wylde
16" length
CMV, stainless might work
muzzle threaded for flash hider
1:12 twist, preferred but no faster than 1:9
HBAR profile
Melonite/nitro-carburized, QPQ preferred
Mid length gas port
M4 feed ramps

No fluting or fancy stuff.

What I finally found was:

Compass Lake Recon barrel Handy link to Compass Lake Recon barrel

16.1" Recon Contour
M4 Feed Ramps 1:12 twist
MID Gas system, 1/2-28 threads, Proper OPS, Inc. muzzle contour for OPS collar
Stainless steel, bead blasted
223 Wilde chamber

Seems as though they had purchased a 'lot' of 10 or 12 of them and had some left.

Once I get it I will lap the bore if needed and then send it out to be Melonited or whatever version of carob-niturizing is appropriate for stainless.
