Decided I had better get after the baby EOTech, since my model is a loaner. After 13 or 14 hours, it's basically done except for the secondary hood. I will probably redo the glass, as it chipped a little when pushing it into the tunnel, and I also need to figure out a less reflective coating than low gloss black engine enamel; it's fine when it's shaded, but if there is more light shining into the tunnel from the rear than the front, the reflection of the lower tunnel is superimposed on the image through the sight. Anyway, obviously the tunnel is a little long for scale. I split the difference between the scale size and the distance from LED to lens on the micro sight. Also clearly a different adjustment screw arrangement. Otherwise I tried to keep it right. The guts from the mini RDS are mostly in-tact, although I did have to reduce the battery holder to accept a CR1620, as a CR2032 is too big for this sight. Besides that, I just clipped the switch wires to feed them through the hole in front and then resoldered them so that the switch could be pressed in from the front of the housing. Roughed out, about 4 hours: http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n117/Hunter2506/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20150101_205055809_zps59056012.jpg Another 2 hours saw the underside profiled for electronics: http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n117/Hunter2506/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20150103_242142086_HDR_zps02d75f13.jpg Profile finished and sanded: http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n117/Hunter2506/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20150103_242127888_zps25016387.jpg And done: http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n117/Hunter2506/Machining%20projects/IMG_1291_zps29954d85.jpg http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n117/Hunter2506/Machining%20projects/IMG_1292_zps5951687f.jpg http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n117/Hunter2506/Machining%20projects/IMG_1290_zps5ae3a8ce.jpg Look closely and you'll see the dot. So are you making a secondary hood for it? |

So are you making a secondary hood for it? View Quote Yeah, but I need to get a piece of 5052 to bend up. I didn't feel like hogging 95% of the material away from a ~2"x2"x1" piece, and everything I have on hand is 6061, 2219 or 7075 with T-6/T-7/T-651/T-8511 tempers; excellent machinability, very poor formability. |

This is the thread that just keeps on giving, this project belongs as a magazine Article.....

Oh, hell no. Evidently they're too busy getting ready to screw us with 41P and handing down bullshit edicts on Sig braces and 80% lowers to mess with the likes of an individual's FTB tech question submission.
They're supposed to respond in 60-90 days. It's been 119. If we get to 6 months with no word, I'll probably just say screw it and proceed. I was trying to do everything totally by the books, leave no question. But it's very clear to anyone with a room temperature IQ or better that this thing is a pistol. |

OP amazing job, i wish i had the ability to do a project like this. I can build regular uppers and lowers, but the ability to machine piece by piece is out of this world!! keep it up want to see it go bang

You should bring your Mini EoTech design to the company, maybe they will come out with something to compete with the Aimpoint Micro based off your concept.
