All steel plates, $75.00

be careful with jigs that have this design. It's really easy to flip the top plate and mill through the bolt in the rear.

With the sale tactical machining sales today and this weekend you can't find a better jig or better lowers I've used 6 pre anodized and one raw one and every rifle ihas come out perfect. I do need to replace one of my top plates cuz I got a little overzealous but it never hurt the lower any

I'm not sure if I'm following you here:

If you flip it the bolts will not fit because they are recesessed into the surface.  If you rotate it around, the only area you can mill is the trigger hole.

Can you expand on your statement?

Wang,

That looks right to me. The back shelf appears to be already milled if I'm lookin at it right. Just make sure when u cut the trigger hole through the floor that u mill the length of it correctly. I just did one a few days ago and I didn't cut the trigger hole long enough and I had to spend a half an hour with a rat tail file to make it fit. I did not have enough trigger travel back and forth

That is a better design than the one I had - the rear pocket on the lowers wasn't milled. Carry on.

I bought two, just because.  I've been wanting one for a while, but balked at the price as I'm not ready to use it.  For $65 each, I bought a couple.

Motoguy  you won't be disappointed. They are rock solid. I put black electrical tape on the jig where it touches the anodizing. That tiny bit of tape thickness does not change your milling area. It protects the anodizing

Drill bushings on both sides

Pursuit$$,

I like the drill bushing on both side idea. That being said I have never had a issue with my holes being off from drilling from one side. I am very careful to go slow and step drill. I also drill my selector, hammer, and trigger holes BEFORE I mill the FCG pocket. I worry with having to drill through the hollow FCG that it has more tendency to "walk" I realize there is hardly any material on either side that way its just something I do. I may try and do it backwards for me one of these days and see if my normal point is valid. I suspect it really doesn't make much difference as long as you take your time and use GOOD bits! No ChiCom tooling for me!

[Last Edit: PursuitSS] [#10]
My take on drilling the trigger and hammer holes is mill the fire control pocket and then drill the holes on each side. I feel there is less chance of going out of tolerance.

YMMV.

Also, it appears that Roseville Advanced Machining is gone.

I think we are going to see several more 80% Jig Manufacturers fail over the next year. There are WAY too many for the demand!

I've said it before and I'll say it again. What would be my dream jig would have...

Hardened Steel construction

Side plate thickness of around 3/4" - 1" width (to ensure the bit is accurately lined up).

A WIDE Top Plate so it can be cut with a router like the Easy Jig.

Trigger & Hammer holes in .154" diameter so they can be cut with a #23 dill bit and then finished reamed to .156

And a trigger hole jig that extends almost to the bottom of the FCG Pocket to ensure that when you drill through the bottom of the receiver for the trigger that there is no chance of error.

I like the one from  Modulus Arms.  A bit pricey, but it seems it will work on any 80% lower.

I have ordered the Modulus Arms Jig, I'm planning to add Tungsten Carbide drill bushings to the Jig. I found a source for .154 I.D. Drill Bushings

I didn't see Stealth Arms listed but there are some out there.
I got one and the safety guide was off so far that the safety didn't engage.
I wound up plugging and redrilling the lower. Ain't pretty but it works.

I "talked" my 15y/o nephew through milling his own 80%'er yesterday.  Christmas present from his favorite uncle.  Used a jig just to hold it in the milling vise and to reassure him the holes were drilled correctly.  But the entire pocket was done with no guide.  My buddy stopped over to watch, but quickly said "I wanna do one too".  So he did.

I talked my nephew through installing the LPK all himself too.  Hoping one day he'll be able to look at and with pride say "I built that".

Hope everyone had a merry Christmas and gets to spend some time with the family, build AR's of course.

Can you provide your source for the tungsten bushings?  Will they fit directly into the Modulus Arms Jig or do you plan to drill it out and make it fit?

As to installing them, I talked to a buddy who is a machinist and he stated that you drill the specified hole with a drill press then carefully use a press to install them.

Until my Modulus jig arrives I wont know if there is enough "meat" or clearance to install them

Has anyone tried the Hell Fire Armory jig?
Link Posted: 2/17/2015 3:59:05 PM EDT
[Last Edit: notBrad] [#26]
Anyone have any experience with this one?

.223 Targets $89.95
Aluminum with steel top plates
Bushings: None
http://www.223targets.com/80_percent_AR15_Lower_receiver_jig_AR15_p/ar-jig.htm

They seem to include the bits, etc... and it has steel tops plates.

Back story, I'll probably do only this one build although couple more could be a possibility if this goes right

IMO, when i get into doing 80%. I am going with Broken Armory. Their jig looks awesome, plus they have custom made bits, great instructional vids, and are comparably priced.

FWIW.....I WOULDN'T EVEN CONSIDER A JIG THAT ONLY HAD BUSHINGS ON ONE SIDE......UNLESS MONEY WAS REALLY TIGHT.
COME ON PEPS WHO SELL THESE JIGS, BUSHED ON ONE SIDE WTF !
TRY DOING THAT FOR A PROFESSIONAL, OR A SHOP TO PURCHASE
IT IS JUST A SORRY AS-ED EXCUSE TO SQUEEZE  ANOTHER 5 BUCKS OF PROFIT.

I have both 80% arms easy jigs and they are awesome. The ar15 jig is universal (about 99% imo) but the 308 ver isn't. I bought an arma ar10b 80% from elkcreekmanufacturing.com and the easy jig would fit if I removed a little material near mag release and mag well. Elk creek also sells an sr25 80% lower and mil spec lowers plus jigs for all 3 but I have no experience with them.

I had my choice down to Broken Arms
http://www.brokenarmory.com/

And Nova Tool ($150.00 includes Tooling Kit)
https://www.etsy.com/listing/229179051/nova-tool-80-ar-15-drill-jig?ref=related-0

I thought Nova Tools jig looked better after watching the video here
https://youtu.be/2PcJ_VwP4Hk
You can see how heavy the hardened Steel plates are and the sides plates have hardened steel bushings. I ended up choosing the Broken Arms jig because of the lack of reviews on the Nova Tool jig. I hope I don't regret the decision.

I think the Nova Tool jig deserves a place in the list.

I emailed them about this and they said it is designed for their Billet lowers but can be modified if requested when ordering to fit a standard lower. There were only 2 reviews that I found and one of the reviewers said he modified the jig himself. The reason I didn't buy this one is that there isn't much information on it other than the video.
