I built an AR recently and after 80 rounds and it's 4 normal cleaning the button for the forward assist fel off. No abuse givin, yet. It was a Anderson FA. I called so warranty one is on the way and they want the old one to see what happened. My question is, does anyone know haw the button is attached? Press fit, epoxy, both? I use carb cleaner to flush out all solvent and it works great but did id make the button "unglue" or something? When it failed was uppon a function check after cleaning. I'm guessing it's a fluck but I'm curious on how most companies attach the button.

The FA button is held in with a roll pin.

that I have never seen before.   I was thinking  the pin fell off....  no fixing that that would cost less than a new one .

I always wondered how that part was attached to the FWD assist assembly.

Yes it happens to the cheap commercial available ones...you need one that is pressed and roll pinned on per the milspec.  I had those buttons on the cheapies fall off right out of the bag!

Order one from BCM etc.

I have never seen that before.
With the proliferation of cheap parts I guess it is not a real surprise.

Seemed odd to me too. I was actually thinking of just drilling and roll pinning it. I swear it looks like glue residue that let go. I used the same part from Anderson on two other rifles and they are well over 1000 rouunds with no issues what so ever. Everything is good enough til it's not.

Wow.
They say you learn something new every day.
I just wasted my day.

ETA: This is something to check on all my ARs now.

I've never seen one with a roll pin. My AA upper, Damage Industries, and PSA kits don't have the roll pin. A roll pin DOES seem like a good insurance, I'm amazed this hasn't happened more often.
So... some sort of epoxy is all that is holding the button/spring on most FA's??

All of my FA buttons are secured with a roll pin per milspec

+1... Wow, In all my years building, shooting, etc.... I have never seen anything like that ever. OP Anderson is just gonna send you another glued POS FA to replace your broken unit, if I were you I'd buy a quality rollpinned FA and use the new Anderson as a spare.
