Should have went with magnesium.  I'd like to know what bolt carrier they're using.

So its only good if you have an aimpoint? They need to make a KISS, Iron sight version.

Could have shaved more weight by not having a muzzle brake as well.

Just port the barrel instead. Or maybe its a 14.5" pinned?

I would guess 14.5 pinned barrel and titanium brake. After looking at it again, I think its under 16 total.

I have an old Bushy Carbon-15 with the stainless fluted pencil barrel.  It is ~4.5#  under 4# would be pretty sweet.

That incredible. I can't wait till they release more information.

What pistol grip is that? Proprietary?

I think its a Magpul K grip.

I wonder what the trade off in weight is for losing the charging handle and going with another milled slot / side charger!

I love the lightweights but if the barrel is NFA it real doesn't count IMHO. Legal 16" total barrel length and some kind of sights, iron or red dot.  Less than that and it is just a heavy pistol...

I'd be more impressed if they had actually kept more of the AR's functional features.

FA, Dust Cover, Collapsible stock, Irons... etc...

Doesn't really look that elegant in its simplicity, more like there is a lot missing.

Somewhere to attach my sling please??

A LOT of us don't consider the Forward Assist functional.

That is slick.  Could we have a slightly lower optic, perhaps?  And a linear comp instead of a brake?  Any way you cut it, that is an impressive achievement.

Forward assist = answer to a problem that doesn't exist. Obvious govt idea.

That magwell cutout appears familiar

There's a point where comfort needs to come in and practicality be a part of the rifle building process.

The OP-pictured rifle probably has a 12.5" barrel as it looks to me.

There are ways to get practical rifles built that will balance very well and still have your proper accessories: ie light and optic.

Look up JoshAston in the 'Under 6' crowd.  He is much lighter than that.

Great.  So what about the rest?

Is this really the best they could do?

It looks like they put a lot of effort into some areas and not so much into others.

Golfball dimpling on the barrel and then no lightening holes on the HG?

An A2 grip is probably lighter than what they are using...

Not exactly following the whole O.I.P. concept they say they based it on.

I fully expect Josh to someday break the 3 POUND MARK!

What I find encouraging is this quote from the Battle Arms Facebook page:

Battle Arms Development

No prices yet as many custom components are still be finalized. Speaking of the pins, it will have our latest Grade 5 Titanium Enhanced Pivot & Takedown Pins. The name of the rifle is O.I.P. (Ounce Is Pounds). A dedicated rifle designed to maximize weight savings and still retain the reliability of the weapon system. There will be many lightweight AR15 products to be released later this year, directly stem from the research and development of this OIP Rifle Project.

Ehh, full NFA toys, I bought 30rn GI mags from a roadside vendor in February, and I COULD buy weed.
Sounds relatively free to me

Maybe the cold, the weed, & the 15 rnd mag limit is getting to him & he forgot he wasn't in GD.  I can't tell from the pic, is it a 14.5" w/ pinned & welded?
Link Posted: 4/24/2014 4:30:24 PM EDT

That may be a 10.5". At the most its an 11.5".

And its only a "heavy" pistol if it has no stock. Otherwise all SBR's could be classified the same way(heavy pistol). Which we know would be silly.

I think it looks at least 12" long.
Link Posted: 4/27/2014 12:03:38 PM EDT

using some very cryptic real world to photo measurement ratios the barrel seems to be around 12" with the muzzle device

eta 6.5cm/18cm = 10.5cm/x

after conversion came out to just shy of 12"
