I just posted the files on thingiverse.com to print your own 80% lower
jig/guide.
go on thingiverse.com and type in 80 percent and you will see it.....enjoy!

Nice!  This and drill bushings and you would have a repeated use jig!

the jig is nice because if any of it gets messed up you just print a new side......it comes apart in four interlocking pieces!  I made one and it is solid as a rock

try and google "hackerspace" in your area.  These are groups of people that like to build things and many of them have 3d printers

Dave,
I just printed the "thicker 12mm jig top" file and the stock end radi is way off.
Can I get a copy of the CAD files for these?
I use solidworks and can import just about any CAD format.

I just cut that tab off....did not serve any purpose...I will check for the files when I get home today.
I just hollowed out the trigger pocket on two lowers this weekend and that 12 mm top works well.

Downloaded, Thanks for posting the STLs.  Will print it out and see how they fit some of the 80% lowers I have.

No offense, solidworks is not the powerful... NX / Unigraphics baby is where its at.

Second, whats the tolerance of that printer resolution?
+- .003?

That ABS plastic doesn't hold very good flatness tolerances.

I used pla not abs....it's harder...prints very flat and smooth!  If you look closely at the pics it's right onthe money.  I did not design this jig....just modified it to fit my particular lower,  just sharing my experience with fellow gun making enthusiasts!   I love having a ar-15 that is devoid of any serial numbers!

If you need to hold +-.003, then you are looking at a much higher $ machine. SLA, SLS, etc. Not a machine that extrudes plastic, layer upon layer like a log house.
ABS is fine for this purpose..what are you thinking it should hold for flatness, parallelism, etc?


UG/NX= Overpriced/overkill for all but the most complex parts. Certainly several orders of magnitude better than what is needed for any 3D printer regardless of current tech. The limitation here is the machine/material combination, not the software.

You should ask some of the industry partners that make the parts what they use for CAD..No offense, but I would bet on Solidworks or Pro/E :)

I do have a upper receiver block for clamping the upper receiver for barrel installation that I designed and built on a Stratasys printer. If anyone is interested in the file, let me know the filetype you need and I will see if I can get it to you.

No problem..The file is at work, so I will send it to you tomorrow morning.

I am assuming that you need the two pieces oriented to save support, so I will do that
