Look at DelTon or model1 sales.

Just google model1 and blackthorne. There is just no point dealing with companies like those when there are 10 good companies you could deal with instead.

Use Lego pieces before you use blackthorn. There are a half dozen or more people on the equipment exchange that all sell quality kits. Or try some of the sponsors at the top of this page. But never ever use blackthorn. They should be called thorn in the ass.

They get bashed for a REASON!!!!

A friend of mine ordered 3 Blackthorne kits (at the time they were all that was available) two of the barrels failed headspacing! They were short chambered, he had to recut the chambers.

Blackthorne is TOTAL SHIT!!!

And standing up for them makes everyone here question whether you are that out of touch, or a shill acct.

I've never owned anything from PSA, but they use FN-made barrels. They have a full kit minus sights and stripped lower, with FN barrel, for $499. That's a hell of a lot better than "ok for the money".

I like DoubleStar/J&T Distributing.

[#18]
Ditto on J&T, decent prices, decent stuff and every shipment has arrived in a week.
Most of my stuff is from PSA and J&T and both AR's fit together beautifully.
Very little upper/lower slop and take down pins pop with finger pressure.

ETA: Originally I was looking at Blackthorn and Model1 because of price. Then I did a little Google-fu and learned from "those that came before".
In other words, spend another C-note and get 10 times the quality.

By "oly" I assume you mean Olympic Arms?  If so, they are not associated with Blackthorne/Vulcan/Hesse, and while not considered "tier 1", they are not quite in the same league as Blackthorne/Vulcan/Hesse.

I don't have to order shit to know it's shit. I can take others word for it. There are way to many stories out there about their shit products. And companies that make quality components don't change their name on a regular basis. If you make a quality product, you want repeat customers or word of mouth advertising. That doesn't happen when you've changed your name.

But by all means, order a kit and get back to us.

There are a few members here that bought kits that turned out to be junk.  One had a used barrel on it.  Blackthorne had removed the extension and put a new one on.  Once tightened they did not fill the orginal gas port , recentered the FSB and drilled a new port and then pinned the FSB on.  So it ended up with two sets of holes where the FSB were pinned and two gas ports.

Another member here defended them saying that they were good for the money, but when pressed admitted to having to do a LOT of work t o get it to run reliably.

put it in a box and sleep at night?
In the end, I told him to send it back. It was terrible.

Lets see, I personally observed the head space being checked on three Blackthorne barrels.

Two of the three failed BADLY!

They wouldn't even come close to chambering a round

Then I personally observed him recutting the chambers with a Clymer tool. THEN, they passed head spacing.

HOW's THAT FOR HEARSAY?

They are not as horrible as people here make them out to be.  Blackthorne sells blem stuff at blem prices.  Ordering from them is a crap shoot: sometimes you get what you pay for, sometimes you get crap.  I've bought stuff from them before and have never been burned too badly, but unless it's some part that I absolutely have to have and they are the only people selling it, I won't use them.

FN MADE????? that doesnt mean a whole lot. i can guarantee the FN barrels they are selling are not 100% made AND completely finished by FN. maybe they are getting blanks from FN. we got one of their complete uppers with an FN barrel..... the threads on the muzzle were longer than spec so the smith votex flash hider we put on it didnt fit right. we had to use shims. i called smith the owner told me on the phone there was NO WAY FN built that barrel when i gave him the specs.

and so what your saying is if blackthrone gfets soem barrel blanks from FN and finishes them then they HAVE to be awesome becasue hey, its an FN barrel right?

point was, if blackthorne had a "FN MADE" barrel dirt cheap everyone would bash it. but for some reason if PSA has a "FN MADE" barrel for cheap then there is a glowing gold halo around it with angels singing.

and i not bashing PSA. its just funny how people want to put certain brands on a pedestal when they are no better or worse than most makers. i went on a long discussion about this in a thread on here about noveske lowers and color matching.

PSA has already confirmed that their barrels are 100% MADE for them by FN, hell they are just down the road from each other. Do you really think FN can't screw up a barrel once in a while just like anyone else?

So much for your guarantee.

I have put many of their kits together and yes there is a lesser quality part now and then.  If you want a masterpiece or are going to risk your life with your rifle then pay someone like Noveske for a rifle. If you want an AR and do not expect every piece finished to perfection then Blackthorne is fine.
I would also add that if you risk your life with your AR you should know the finish is not important anyway and know how to repair anything that does not work. An AR either works or it does not and they can all be made to run ,even Blackthorne kits.
Lets remember ,a kit is not a rifle ,it is a collection of parts.

I am not saying Blackthorne is the best company around or anything like that but I am saying that if you know your way around an AR then you can use their kits as a cheap collection of parts that is able to make a good working rifle. Even if you needed to replace a hammer or spring or some other part to make the rifle 100% reliable it would still end up less expensive than anyone else so they are not all bad or without their place.

You could have sent the barrels with the improperly cut chambers back.  I've gotten shit that was completely unusable from them: I sent it back, and they sent me shit that wasn't completely unusable.  I have two "blem" CMMG barrels that came with replaced barrel extensions and redrilled gas ports; they were super cheap and work fine.

I'm not saying their product doesn't suck and the company isn't sketchy as hell, but I've never ordered anything from them that didn't arrive promptly and wasn't more or less what I though I was getting.  I can't say the same about PSA (although to be fair to PSA, even when they totally screw up your order, whatever they send you is still pretty nice and is worth at least what you paid for).

Yes they are.  Your guarantee would be wrong.  The PSA rep has made this clear 100 times in their forum.  They do not finish barrel blanks at PSA, they get them complete  from FN.  They are FN barrels, and many of them say FN right on them, I have one.

Every manufacturer makes a mistake, that is for sure.  FN isn't safe from screw ups.

You guys can justify buying crap all you want. When I spend hundreds of dollars on something, I expect it work when it arrives. End of story. I shouldn't have to work on something to make it work, that's what I'm paying the vendor to do.
