Nice rifle, nice background! Why did you cut down the free float tube?

Nice job, H. Very similar to my 5.56 rifle. I went through a succession of handguards, including one like yours, before finally settling on one of the new thin models with a fixed rail on top. Check it out. - CW

The handguard was originally 12 1/2" long. It was just bugging me so I stuck it in the lathe & cut 1 1/2" off. I might mill some vent slots in it. Not sure on the pattern yet. This build still weights out at 9#. Even with that heavy 30mm scope the gun balances very well. I couldn't really decide on a handguard ( Too many choices! ) so I went with this onefor the time being. Chasw those ff handguards are on my short list. Thanks for the input much appreciated.
