I would follow, but man...
I really enjoy having a lathe and mill at work. Our mill is a bit old tho and is sort of worn out. Parts will jump when in the vice. But I wanna try and keep track of what you've been doing. |

Lol old AIM. I still have an AOL email address I use for bullcrap sign ups. You oughta upgrade to SW 2012-13. I might could get you a copy of it if you don't need SW tech support. Go to best buy. They should be able to transfer your hard drive for not too much. I know they sell the cradles next to the hard drives. I've been working on an old copy of SW07 for personal stuff, it's the only open copy I've got, but I would love to have something newer We're on 2012 here at work, but it's all network/floating license stuff and I'm not letting our IT anywhere near my personal computer... Not to mention we don't have the simulation/FEA license, whereas my personal copy has Cosmos. This is all the software I have. To the point that 90% of that I've never even installed to see if it works because I have no memory left on my hard drive to cover it all. I'm planning on upgrading to a new desktop instead of getting a new laptop and I'm going as big on memory as I can. Long story short, anything listed here has a non expiring license. The SolidWorks Premium has all the goodies, simulation included. All this together is about 230 GB and that's just the install compressed files, not the uncompressed open files for actual running. I have 12GB left on my hard drive so no more software is going on the laptop. 3DQuickForm 3.1.4™ for SW 2009-13 (x86 & x64) ~~~ 3DQuickMold 2013™ SP1.0 (x86 & x64) for SW 2011-2013 ~~~ 3DQuickPress Day 1,461
Seriously though OP, I have a GSG5-22 project gun that I've been working on for 5 years now, and thats just for a mod, not building the whole thing. I don care how long it takes its still a badass project! Happy 4 years and one day! |

Can't you "check out" a network license with SW?
I do it all the time with Inventor. Although I'd rather model at work on my workstation than on my laptop generally. |

Put a nice quality 3 axis DRO on it and you will be good to go for most of your needs...granted, a full CNC retrofit will let you do so much more but are you willing to spend the 4-5 grand to have the work done to the machine for that to happen...That is the milling machine I worked with back in my University days way back when...Good luck. I'm just about ready to set up some digital readouts on my old Bridgeport Series 1, but this thread is seriously making me think about the full CNC retrofit. But Holy Shit, I just don't think I can afford that. The original plan was to be able to complete some 80% lowers, but milling out any lower you want from a cheap raw forging sounds too awesome to not consider. Especially when I'm this fortunate to even have one of these on my property. Tell me what's possible. http://i.imgur.com/OfcADMh.jpg?1 Put a nice quality 3 axis DRO on it and you will be good to go for most of your needs...granted, a full CNC retrofit will let you do so much more but are you willing to spend the 4-5 grand to have the work done to the machine for that to happen...That is the milling machine I worked with back in my University days way back when...Good luck. IIRC, there was a Community College that was closing down somewhere near here or in VA, they were cleaning out the building and hauling the stuff over to a farmers market. My Dad heard a rumor they wanted to get rid of one of their knee mills, headed on over and bought the thing before it even left the building. |

I will do my best to get it out to you this week. |

My sister and her fiance are designing a house, and my dad is going to build it, I've been modeling it up for them to get a better idea of what it looks like than a hand sketch on paper. Whenever I get it further along and bring it into a newer version, I can set up a fly-through animation, which should be pretty sweet |

Bout damn time!
Interested in what the bolt carrier and spring setup looks like on that one.

View Quote Similar to the bufferless setup in my avatar, with a shortened carrier and the spring around the extended gas key. Except, since it's .45ACP, the gas block is right in front of the barrel nut, and the spring has to be in a location above the gas tube. So the riser is there to contain the spring while still having room for sights/optics. The underside will have some significant material removed. |

probably a dumb question, but is that PDW a separate thing or did I miss the part where you dropped the PDR clone idea?

Lower receiver looks like a standard AR receiver, but that looks like it might be a grease gun magazine, which is too wide for a standard magwell. Looks like the upper receiver started out as a standard receiver. ACE side folder stock? Are the handguard and riser completely original? Or modified off-the-shelf parts? |
|
Quoted:
I've got a 80% lower that I chopped up and bolted on a GG magwell I cranked out, It's been done and working for a couple years now, just finally decided to SBR it. The upper is an Anderson part with the port opened up and some clearancing for the action springs over the top. The riser is an ARMS swan rail with some extra work done. The handguard is from scratch, I've got some of the oval aluminum intake tubing left over from my ongoing PDR project. Yes, it's an ACE folder, I've had it in the spare parts box for a while. Still hammering out a few details before I start cutting, but I got my eForm 1 back in 12 days ETA: lower with my 16" DI upper: http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff206/devtucker/AR-45/IMG_20130324_133403_878.jpg http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff206/devtucker/AR-45/DSCF10941.jpg View Quote Looks good. Frankly, the improving turnaround times are making me nervous, I'm more inclined to see it as "clearing the deck" in preparation for cutting us all off for when rule 41p goes into effect, rather than the NFA branch suddenly giving a damn about us.

The thing is there is zero reason why it should take more than a few days on ANY of the forms. They should have a system that pulls a person's name up and see if they have previous entries. If they do, instant approval. Kinda like having a conceal carry permit. OR do something similar to the U-PIN you can get for filling out the 4473 without a carry permit. Would essentially be the same process. I can understand it taking a little longer on first timers, but after the first time no. |
