I picked up one of the first TLR-1 HLs in their new color scheme (FDE) so I've had this one for a while.    My thoughts...

Pros:

-800 lumen max output
-15,000 candela peak beam intensity
-245m beam list rate, real world throw is probably more in the 100-120m range
-Runs time is 1.75 hours
-good balance of spill/hot spot as seen in the video
-comes with strobe option but it can be disabled
-IPX7 waterproof to 1 meter for 30 minutes
-compatible with the long gun kit
-6061 aluminum body that fits all current aftermarket holster (i.e. for the pre-HL versions)
-assembled in the US
-Cost is pretty good for what you get in terms of durability/proven performance

Cons:

-parts sourced in China
-some folks don't like the ergos of the switch but I do

Have you played with the throw between the 800HL and Rail Mount 2?

All of our Patrol guys were issued this light along with new holsters. Now to get a common training standard for using a weapon mounted light...ie realize were the light shines is were the muzzle is pointed. Basic concept but for the non gun gear heads it's not.

BTW love mine

All TLR models are "machined aluminum sealed construction", except for the TLR-3, TLR-4, and some IR models.

Parts made in China means I'm sticking to Surefire

I noticed that the HL fits tight in my holsters that fit the standard TLR-1.  It does fit, it's just a little harder to get it out.

Surefire also imports parts.

If you want top quality LEDs you have to buy them from China. That's where EVERYONE gets them.

I like the switch on the TLR series.  I don't run the remote switch when running a rifle light (TLR-1 for HD use TLR-1HP for field use) but just mount the light in a spot where I can operate it with the momentary side of the switch.  Same when pistol mounted.  My forward thumb is right at the switch and it's easy to manipulate when needed.

Great review, I have the -1HL and -4R, I like the smaller diameter of the -4R but the -1HL is a lot of light.  Both hang on M9A3's and switch placement is perfect.

The few imported parts that are used are of good quality, we should all try and "buy American" as much as possible but lets face it, some stuff is going to be imported.
