Just picked up an M300 looking for a flip cap for light discipline purposes. What size flip cap from butler creek do I need? I've searched no joy.

The advertised bezel diameter for the M300 is 1.125" so I'm not sure you'll get an EXACT fit but I use the O2A size on my TRL-1 lights.  Amazon has them - check the drop-down menu.

Just FYI - my TRL-1HL melted the cap when I accidentally left it on.  The plastic is soft.  No idea if the M300 makes that kind of heat but you've been warned.  A trick I employed was putting a pin-prick hole in the cap so I would know if the light had been inadvertently activated.  Again, maybe not an issue with the M300.

Thanks for the reply. It looks like the vortex size three would work as well.

Not sure how hot it will get if I leave it on haven't tested that yet but I'm sure it would get hot.

I know surefire makes a cover but at $90 bucks for a flip cover I'm not interested.

Why do you want a cap? To protect the lens? They have a slip on cover, $30 from Surefire ($27 from LAPG)

Edit: I would not put plastic that WILL melt, the M300 will put out heat (300 Lumen model is what I have, approx. 9,000 candela)

I get that (especially since bad guys can have night vision capabilities and you'd give away your position), but if you have that cap on, and you go to press that switch in an emergency, are you going to remember to remove that cover?

I do plan on getting a offset mount so I can use a tailcap switch later on with a VFG. As it sits now the standard 1913 clamp is to high on the rail for me to get at the tailcap switch effectively. Also considering the new Scout XM tailcap switch so I have options.

To answer your ? I would rather have the extra insurance of the cover against accidental light activation if I need it until I get an offset mount.

This is very worth considering.  My TRL-1 HL melted the cap when I accidentally left it on with the cap closed.  Learned my lesson and also learned to put a small pin-hole in the cap - so you can quickly ensure the light isn't on while still protecting against accidental light discharges (since the TRL has no lock-out).
