Who has the oldest mag-lite? The website said 1979 was first run?

How does someone know how old it is, there's a serial number on 4/D-cell

Too bad there isn't a search for serial numbers, the only thing I found was on the incandescent D cell lights, C is before 2001, and D is after.

I bought mine almost 20 years ago. Don't use them anymore

I have some that are probably from the late 1980s at the oldest.

I still have a 4-D cell I bought in 1982.  It traveled many miles with me.  It now sees backup duty only.  Xenon bulbs ftw!

I think my oldest is the 4D I bought back in the late 90's.  Got a few LED modded ones floating around plus a sweet MagCharger that has a 700lm LED conversion in it that I did.  One of these days I need to make a nasty search light out of one of them.

Bought mine when I started the Sheriff reserves in 1994.

Haven't used one of those for at least 20 years.  Batteries always dead and not really bright enough to see more than a few feet when they weren't!

My buddy has a rechargeable Streamlight that's at least 20 years old and still doin' great.  I've been using hand-held Surefires forever.

Mid-90's on my 3D, it's got an LED bulb now and makes good useable light but I don't
carry it much.  Hangs by the bed.  I carried a little 2aa mini in the open top belt sheath
for a lot of years, the finish was about gone from the head where I crawled around and
ground it into stuff but it soldiered on as Mags usually do.  I left it in some car I was working on ages ago but
still have the sheath, bought another mini, put an LED in it.  I don't carry it either but it's
still a mighty comfy and handy little work light.

Bought one of the first Mini-Maglites in the UK prior to going into the RAF (late '85)
Still have it & the extra accessory pack that I picked up up for it at the time

I have one from around 1981 or maybe 1982, though it may be older as it was given to me at that time.

I bought another one a few years later.

Both of those are 3 D cell lights.

I have several of the 2 cell AA lights I carried in fishing tackle boxes and butt packs on ATVs.  Last summer I removed the one from my old tackle box (last fished out of the bass boat in 2000 and the darn thing still worked.  That light had been in the shed for 15 years with the same batteries in it.  No corrosion or anything.  I took the old batteries out and tossed them.

I no longer use Maglites either.  I have Olights on the carbines and some 2 AA cell Rayovacs for the vehicles and around the house.  They are way brighter than the mag lites and the batteries seem to last longer in them.

The number on the oldest one is 30019984.

Hah, it came on when I first picked it up from the top of the old cabinet in the bed room, but now it seems to be dead.  I took the batteries out so they wouldn't leak/corrode it.

I bought my 3D, that was stolen last Feb., in 1993. I had put a glass lens and led bulb in it.

Last spring I replaced it with a 2D factory led model.

I have a 2D cell from about 87 or 88 out in the shop, still works.

I don't remember what happened to my 4 D cell light, form the same era.

I have had my mag charger since 1999. It has survived multiple soft tissue and bone impacts. I did replace the bulb with a Malkoff LED. The LED holds up to impacts better

I still have my 5 D cell mag light I bought in college working student security.  That would have been +- 1977 - 1978.

Still works, but i never use it anymore.  Its so old I cant use a Malkoff drop in.

I have one that has been in every car I have owned for 26 years...converted to LED a few years ago. It is also my back-up light these days behind a Surefire.

I have one from the late 90's (4D).  Finally put a Malkoff LED unit in it a few months ago when they had a sale.  It is a great car EDC light again now; good output, run time, and a club!

Mine are almost that old.

Tough for me to want to pull out the 4 and 6 cell halogen beasts anymore.

Mine's from the 90s but not sure which year.   We had to get them in the police academy and I distinctly remember our instructors telling us how 60 lumens was revolutionary and would let you see "just about everything" in the dark.   How things have changed....

I have a AA one that I got in Cub Scouts, 81-82,  I still have it.  Lots of better lights out here but this one is still in my pack, along with others!
