So I have an old Surefire E1e that I'm trying to upgrade on the cheap from an incandescent bulb to an LED. I'm thinking of using it as an EDC because it's so small. After scouring the interwebs, the only thing that I have been able to find is a Malkoff head for $80. That's a bit more than what I want to pay unless I have to. Does anyone else have any recommendations on drop-in or head replacements?

If you really want to keep it small your best option is probably the "SingLED" drop-in from Tana over on CPF -though it costs nearly the same as the Malkoff. You mentioned the Malkoff headunits (the E1 and MDC,) but there is also the Malkoff M31 and VME combo which is slightly larger but easier to upgrade in the future. If you look around the EE or the CPF marketplace you could find an older Surefire KL1, KX1 or even one of the newer KE1 heads. Lumens Factory also makes a replacement head module which is likely the cheapest option, but I can't speak to the quality of their LED offerings.

Hmmm. For these prices, I might as well just buy a Streamlight 1L for $42. I was hoping a drop in would be cheaper than buying a brand new flashlight.

Just updating this thread for archival purposes. A big thank you to DallasLooterShooter who sent me a message with a link to a $28 Lumens Factory drop in. Just arrived last night and works perfectly. Exactly what i was looking for.

You should post a review in a couple months with a longer term look at it. Wonder how those will hold up compared to other options.
