Mr_H, good to see your type.  I like PT a whole bunch and I think many of our customers do as well by the amount of these that fly out the door each week.

I use the SF because it was issued (read FREE). I don't have the Princeton helmet lights Vic speaks off but I have a few Princeton Tec headlamps. One is about 15 years old and going strong. The lights Vis mentioned have the advantage of being able to adjust it's point of aim, which you can't do with a Surefire helmet light.

I have the Surefire helmet light that has white primary LEDs, IR secondary LEDs, and the IFF beacon (standard on all SF helmet lights).  It is great for me to get around, but unfortunately the newer style helmet mounts aren't nearly as universal as the older/first gen mounts.

As far as getting it to work on a picatinny rail, it probably isn't going to happen cheap - you could use the Tango Down rail attachment, but I think it runs like $50.

So my advice is, find a first gen mount, with either gen light, and you're good to go.  I don't have any experience with any other helmet lights, but it appears there are some other good recommendations here.

I really like the Princeton Tech for an up close working light in IR and VIS.  I have them on all my helmets.

Will the SureFire helmet lights work with an OpsCore FAST ballistic helmet that has the rails?

I use a Remix Pro - MPLS that attaches to the NVG shroud

I use a Princeton tec Switch, great light and low weight. I also epoxied one of the mounts onto my backpack strap so I can move the light off my helmet onto my pack if needed.

I got issued a surefire with the blue LED's, and IR strobe some years back. These were only to be used either A)- in the confines of a GMV for map checks and the like, or B), in a covered/concealed area of an objective AFTER it was fully cleared during the more deliberate search. the fact is, I rarely used it because I always forgot it was there lol.

I used a surefire helmet light in 2007/2008. It worked ok but two things that really bugged me:

1-It was wayyyy too easy to activate it by accident since the switch is so exposed
2- No adjustability.

Now that I am out I use a Stream-light Compact II that is the tits.

It can be rotated to focus on whatever you want it to, and it is pretty much impossible to accidentally activate it. It is also super bright with a long battery life. Only downside is that it is a little bulkier than most other helmet lights

I run the PT Charge Pro with red/white LEDs.  It's a great light and the customer service from PT is outstanding.  I had an issue and they called me back several times over a week's period to check in and give updates.  They ultimately sent a new light via 3 day UPS, no charge.

They won a customer for life and I will now look to them for all my headborne lighting needs.

P.S.
Buy from TNVC!
