How many lumens are you running on your weapon mounted light? Are you setup up for CQC or long range? Do you use a single stage or multiple stage light?

Going Finally purchase a P60 host and module for my AR. Has a M223 scope on top of it and I want to at least be able to throw enough light out to be able to use the scope at night if I had too. Ideally out to 500yds.

suggestions on how many lumens I should have?

Night vision.... Dude lights aren't the best for stuff at night. Evaluate you ACTUAL needs and you would probably be actually shooting a lot less.
Edit: Any light you do have needs to be a single output.

There is no light small enough that will mount on your weapon that will have a 500 yard throw...that I know of.

I just ordered a ArmyTek Predator Pro that is supposed to have a really decent throw with a narrow hot spot.
http://www.armytek.com/products/flashlights/hunting-and-military/armytek-predator-pro-xp-g2-variable-bezel-colors.html

From the description:

•The angle of the light spot is 5 degrees.
•The angle of the light spill is 40 degrees.
•At the distance of 300 feet (92 meters), the diameter of the light spot is 26 feet (8 meters).

If you can search SWAT Magazine 2013 issues, Pat Rogers did an amazing article on flash lights in a tactical environment. It's a must read and one of the best we've seen.

500 lumens - P2X Fury - has hands down the best throw and spill I've found.  I use a X300U with 500 lumens on my pistols.  You really can't have too much light inside or out.

1100 lumens on my carbine.  Streamlight Pro Tac HL3.    I have just a normal Pro Tac that will be here tomorrow that's going on my shotgun.  That's 600 lumens.

All mine are 300-500lm.  I have  a pistol light that I built that takes 500lm and floods the piss out of it.  Works great indoors and to 25yds, 50yds if its pitch black out.

OP, if you want to get to 500yds with a light you are going to need a super tight beam and a lot of light focued in with it.  Have fun finding something like that outside of custom built stuff.  I have a light that I can get to about 200-25 with a super tight beam but it was a 100% custom job that is very much not standard.

I got a Surefire X300 on my nightstand piece.  It's about 6 or 7 years old, I think it's 200 lumens.

On my AR I got a Surefire 9P pushing a Malkoff Devices M60, at 230 lumens IIRC.

I didn't think it would be possible to light up a target that far away but I was just curious. Thought about  a laser genetics also. Don't know a lot about weapon mounted lights. Just I want one on my AR in case of a situation that I might actually need it.

TLR-1HL, so 630?

I would get nothing less than 500 ANSI lumens but for the 500 yards your requesting, it's going to be a pretty bulky light that you will have to mount and the light has to have a tight throw.

Yes it is, but not too bright inside.  I switched all weapon lights to the HL's now.
