THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT I have narrowed it down a bit. The light will be attached to my rifle via MOE handguards & Magpul illumination kit. Streamlight TLR-3 Compact Streamlight TLR-1 and TLR-1S Primary Arms UItimate Weapon Light These are all in the price range I am wanting to stick to. The advantage of the TLR-3 is that it is very small and unobtrusive, and the cheapest of the bunch, and it can also mount to my pistols if I wanted to. The TLR-1 and 1S are also pretty small and can mount to my pistols as well. What does the hive say? Thanks |

I vote PA Ultimate Weapon Light. Ive been running one on an AR for a couple thousand rounds now with no issue, and they are bright. To top that, i've been running one on a Saiga 12 for at least 250 rounds (00 buck), also with no issue. Further, when one was shipped with a faulty tape switch i e-mailed them, and got a replacement within the week. Great company PA. Now Streamlight aint no slouch either, but for a carbine i believe youll find the PAUWL is much brighter (amd bigger but you cant have it all on a budget). Just my humble opinion.

If you're concerned about long distance target ID, go with the PA light. If you're wanting something light, and for up close or indoors work, the TLR-1 would be your best bet.

Stream light poly tac HP with a 1" scope ring seems to work well on the cheap. Great throw to the light and LED seem to work well.

I wouldn't buy the TLR-3
It's too small and the plastic housing can break easily rendering your weaponlight useless! The TLR-1 comes with different "keys" so you can use it on glocks, beretta, etc. you can't use primary arms on a handgun. |

Another vote for the TLR-1S. They are tough (lifetime warranty too), compact, and have a great beam pattern for home defense. They don't have very good throw and wouldn't be my choice for shooting much past 25m or so, but indoors they rock.

Not sure why everyone raves about the TLR-1, then craps on the TLR-3.
Must be the whole "it's plastic, so it's bad" mentality. Newer, lighter, smaller, and very bright. Not as bright as the TLR-1. At least the same runtime. I've had a TLR-3 mounted on my G19 for about 2 years now. It's been dropped, banged, slapped and rained-on. No complaints so far. |

Then by a Tatical surfire light for under 150.00bucks. I still use a G2 |

Sorry bro, That's my personal experience with the TLR-3. Stream light replaced it for me, when I got a new one I cut my losses and sold it and put the money towards the TLR-1 In the carbine class I went to I talked to a few people about it. Either they weren't shocked that it failed at the mounting point or else they knew someone who had one that broke in the same spot. Check it out bro, mine broke in the same spot. http://forums.sportfishingmag.com/photos/data/676/tlr-3sm.jpg I didn't torque it too tight if your thinking that. I hand torque mine so that it doesn't go loose. My rifle got bounced around inside the soft case while I was driving to my hunting spot |

I own a TLR1 as well. Durable, bright, lightweight, and cheap. I think of them as the gold standard in budget weapon lights. |

TLR-1 - for CQB
It's quick detach and can go on a railed pistol. Nice little light. ![]() |

I am looking for recommendations as well but, I don't want to spend $600 but, I don't want something for $50 either. I want something mid-priced somewhere in the $200-250 range. I am not a LEO or military so, I don't need something to powerful. Mine would be for home defense I read somewhere when choosing a light you don't want something to powerful for home defense because you would drown things out. So what is recommended. Thanks

Thanks Try a Surefire Scout light with the KL4 (non-TIR) head. Should be perfect for you. |
