Or should I at least get a C4 bulb model?
Any other recommendations for a all purpose weapon light?
It will be going onto the end of a Magpul hand guard 3 slot rail piece.
Thanks!

The TLR-1 won't give you a super tight beam or be the brightest light out there, but I think you could do much worse for a weapon mounted light.

If you are shooting in the dark at ranges upwards of 100 yards, you will probably need something with a higher lumen output than a TLR-1 or TLR-1S.

I still have a TLR-1S mounted on my patrol rifle, and it has served me well through the last 2.5 years, including taking one drop directly to the light (and it still functions fine). I'm a fan of the product, but I know it's very unlikely I will be taking really long shots in the dark working where I do.

Great for close up. Used mine for a 3gun match that went through a dark house.

Fine for use indoors and outdoors from 0-15 yards or so.

Ok thanks guys. I am only really looking for something to use when it gets close to dusk or once it's night time at the range.
Definitely under 25 yards.

I have an old pre-c4 TLR-1 and a new TLR-1s. The old one has been to hell and back and still works great. Comparing the two side by side, the new one is brighter, but for practical purposes they are both about equal. I can clear the house with either no problem, but neither is very impressive at distance. For home defense they are great though with nice even light and they aren't so bright that they blind you if you shine them against a white wall at 2am.

TLR-1S is brighter and should do just fine.

I use a 1S and for my needs I love it. Mine is a patrol rifle so I'm much more likely to neeed to broad beam clearing a house than a pencil beam 100 yards out, just depends on what your usage is going to be.

How about the new TLR-1HP? Does anyone have experience with that model as compared to the standard TLR-1 or TLR-1S?

Curious about this myself. Seems rather large.
