Does anyone know how this setup stands against something like the Surefire M1. Also is there a red glow at the filter that is visible to the eye?
To answer your question, putting any IR filter over an ican. light source blocks approx. 70-80% of all the light itself. Not very effective.
The dedicated IR LED's such as the SF M1 are very effective at dedicated IR. The Surefire M1 has also the cleanest M1 beam of them all btw.
Also, take look at this tacked thread above. http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_20/304222_IR_Illuminator_Shoot_Out_Review__Updated_with_the_Surefire_Vampire_IR_Light.html
Hope this helps.
