Do you guys run a grip stop behind or infront of your hand?

Up front but with enough room to put at least one or two fingers in front of it. Can also use it as barrier stop. I like simple hand stops like arisaka hand stop or the IWC hand stop.

A forward grip or grip stop seems like it should be used in order to snug the rifle closer to you...to pull the rifle in tighter.  So if that's done with it in front and you hook a finger or two in front of it to pull, that's great.  I think the fear of letting your hand slip out front of the muzzle is unrealistic so I'm all for having the stop to the rear of your support hand, or with a pinky or ring finger behind it.

Use it behind to then pull the rifle back into your shoulder pocket

That's what I thought. But I see pics of them run both ways. I don't own one myself, so I thought I'd ask.

First of all, those are not Grip Stops.

This is a Grip Stop.

And this is how it is meant to be used.

Look, even door kickers overseas love them.

Sorry, rail scales calls them hand stops. I took their picture because it shows them mounted in front and behind.

What is the difference in a hand stop and grip stop?

The Grip Stop was first and is better. Just trust me and buy one.

Grip Stops are the best AFG/VFG/handstop option on the market.  By far

I've done both behind the hand, and forward with a finger hooked around the grip stop. Either works, it's a matter of preference, but I lean towards behind the hand.
