Me and an engineering buddy are designing a device that mounts on top of a firearm and detects and displays how many shots have been fired. We're pretty far along in the project but we still don't really know what to call it. We've been calling it a bullet counter, round counter, and shot counter, but none of these sound very cool. Do you guys have any suggestions for a name we can use for the device?

This is an image of how it look so far:

Thanks for your suggestions!

No name suggestion..

I would make it as small and light weight as possible,Taking up no more than 3 maybe 4 rail slots. As is, it looks like it would take up most of the upper receiver rail, even with the incorporated rail section your market would be TINY.  If it could be mounted just about anywhere on the rifle you have some open rail slots I think you'll sell a lot more.

Why not do away with the picatinny section?

Not sure what all you would mount on that over the regular rail on the weapon

Name it the "shot bitch"

I like demoMouse's "Bean Counter" Then modify the product so it will show a running total of the expense of the ammo you just fired. So if I plug in $.37 per round then as it counted it would read .37, then .74, then $1.11, and so on. Then have it print a receipt for those of us who can deduct it from our taxes as a business expense , and also, sync with your iPhone so it will automatically adjust the number of rounds you have recorded in your inventory spread sheet.

All joking aside I see where it could have some uses and I do like "bean counter". I agree with AmericanSoldier1989 no need for the rail section unless it contains your electronics. Maybe a design that mounts in a pistol grip or a buttstock. Make it light.

How about the "Ordnance Odometer."

And if I win for the best product name, when these go into production, feel free to send me one. Let's be honest...that's a damn good name for this thing. Very catchy.

I would prefer it to count up, rather than down.  Can it be smaller, or does it have to be that long to sense the mag change?  Will it work if installed on forward rails, or does it have to go on top of the upper?

Seems like a cool device but the rail section doesn't seem to serve a real purpose. my vote would be for it to count down or up depending on the users needs. RNDCTR seems like a good name. just my .2

MagMeter, AmmoGauge, BangMeter, ShotGauge

If the unit can be without that integrated rail, and be made as small and light as possible, that way it takes up less space on upper receiver or mounted on side of

User programmable? Able to plug into computer via microUSB.  Button(s) to select mag capacity, round count up or down, total round count, reset, etc.
