Hey so I just built my first AR15 (16") however I am not joining the military or going to be using it hardcore, so i dont think spending $70+ on a sling and $200 on a hard case makes a ton of sense.

1) I am looking for a QD sling. Do I want a single point? A two point sling? I don't know, is there a great bang for your buck sling out there that can do both? That would be preferable.

2) I am looking for a soft case. Currently my AR15 is in the cardboard box because I have no other place to put it other than out in the open. Do you guys/gals know of any soft cases that are really great bang for your buck?

3) I am looking for a hard case. Think the Pelican 1700 or 1720 case but not those cause they are $180-$200. Something like this; http://patriotcases.net/product/ar-case/ or maybe that one exactly if anyone has any positive experience with it.

Its not that i wont ever want to upgrade to nicer (higher end) stuff...but its years down the road. For now i just need function...i need a sling to use the rifle and i need some sort of case to transport it in.

If anyone needs clarification (I cant imagine you do) i classify bang for your buck as something on the cheap side but well made and still totally functional. It does everything you would want it to do. For example I can buy a tactical backpack for $300 (American made, really really high quality, etc)...or I can buy one from LAPoliceGear for $30...there are differences between the two but both do what i want them to do and the $30 pack is actually made well enough that i don't have to worry about it tearing or falling apart or anything like that.

I just ordered one of the Condor single rifle soft cases in 36 inch length after a exhaustive search. My AR15 measures 33.5 inches with the Magpul UBR stock collapsed. I plan to use it to transport my gear to and from the range. The reviews are very favorable. Best of luck on whatever you decide to get.

I presume you mean this;http://www.amazon.com/Condor-SINGL-P-Single-Rifle-Case/dp/B0086UAP42 ? Looks solid to me, especially at $60.

I wish it came in Multi-Cam but my second choice would be Olive-Drab/Foliage Green so its no biggy.

So now all thats left is a great bang for buck 1 & 2 point sling and a great bang for buck hard case.

Thanks Mathwiz.

Look on Midway. I've been eyeing some a few different cases for my first AR build as well. They have one soft case on sale for 30 or 40 bucks that looks solid and had mostly favorable reviews. Has mag pouches as well as a zipper pouch. I also like the sniper drag bag that's around 60 or 70$.

How do you like it? Well made and has all the features you'd expect? My only issue is the Condor one (liked in a post above ^) is $60, its Condor (a name brand i recognize) and sold on Amazon (easy returns). Its true its a 1 rifle bag compared to the Evike which is 2 but i dont think i will buy another rifle that would fit in that size of a bag. Hmmmm. Thanks for the recommendation!

Can't beat this deal:
http://www.cabelas.com/product/CABELAS-HARD-SOFT-GUN-CASE/1873535.uts

Cabela's extreme tactical combo (soft case IN a hard case) on sale for $79!
I looked at these last week and they are VERY well built (metal hardware, cam type locking pivots, etc. All heavy duty type hardware). I wished I had picked up a few (they blow my Plano AW series out of the water), but have too many cases as it is.

Pretty much.  The one I got was the 42'' version in black.  I've had it for about 6 months and love it.  Holds my rifle and my 20" shotgun.  I have taken it around to various matches and its held up perfectly.   From understanding it is ncstar/vism.     I've purchased from evike a few times but never had to return anything so I cant speak to the process.  I was in the same boat when I bought my bag.  The reason I didn't go with condor is that the pouches come off and on the ncstar/vism bag they are perm attached.  Other than that they look to be the same bag.

I got a 36" ncstar vism double rifle bag.  So far pretty durable, but i read reviews about the straps for the back pack tear off because of the stitching so i don't use them.  Mine is loaded down with probably 50 pounds of guns, ammo and magazines.

For #2 I picked up a couple nice soft cases from Amazon.  One is a double case that includes a seperator that can be used as a shooting mat. It was $75 shipped and the brand was Explorer. It also has additional pockets for mags, ammo, handguns, etc.

The other was a single case from Uncle Mike's that includes mag pockets and has been very nice for me.

To each his own. Down the road, you'll upgrade.

1. Blue Force Gear Padded VCAS 2 point sling - $55 from them, can usually find it a bit cheaper elsewhere if you shop around. Forget the single point. Only other option worth a damn imo is the VTAC sling by Viking Tactics.
https://www.blueforcegear.com/vcas-acetal-sling.html

2. OPMOD single rifle case. I have the double case which is excellent quality, this one is on sale $29.99 for the 43 inch single rifle case.
http://www.opticsplanet.com/opmod-floating-msr-extreme-gun-case.html

OPMOD double rifle case, right now $64.99
http://www.opticsplanet.com/opmod-shooters-mat-drag-bag-double-rifle-case.html

Google around, you can usually find a 5% or 10% off coupon for opticsplanet.com and watch for holiday sales, I picked up two more double soft cases for $41 each around Christmas.

3. When ready, the less expensive route is probably a plano mil spec case, but a new or used pelican would be what I recommend hands down. If you don't need a hardcore hard case like that and it is just for going to the range, the $20 plano ones work fine, I have 4 and they work fine for just going to the range.

Or buy whatever this guy recommends.  Clearly you'll either buy what he bought or regret it and upgrade to his choices eventually.

Not saying he will regret anything. Most people buy the more expensive stuff down the road anyways once they have more rifles, more expensive optics, etc. whatever the case may be. He asked for suggestions, there are mine.

I have the same.  2 guns, ammo, mags, targets, staple gun, and binoculars all in one bag.  Works just fine.  BUT the backpack straps ripped off the day i got it, but I dont care about that feature.  I probably would have cut them off at some point.

Oh.. Proctor way of the gun sling.  I've used a few, including magpul's latest ms1 with QD.  Sold them all off.  Proctor on my ARs and my Ruger mini.  Probably put one on the muzzle loader  for this year's season.
No extra parts to buy, no attachment poi,ts needed.. Just sinch it and go at less than 2oz.

1. In regards to the options you can choose for the BFG-VCAS, can you give me a little break down on the differences between "Acetal" and "Metal" hardware? And it works (cant imagine it not) with this QD sling mount right? https://www.primaryarms.com/Magpul_QDM_Quick_Disconnect_Sling_Swivel_p/mag543.htm I own one and will need to buy a second if i get that sling (being 2 point and all).

2. I think I'm going to go with the Condor Single Rifle Case (Olive Drab) on Amazon but i really really like that http://www.opticsplanet.com/opmod-floating-msr-extreme-gun-case.html case and it is officially on my list of items that are very appealing. If it came in Olive Drab I bet i'd get it.

3. Is there a reason you said "Mil Spec"? I notice the Mil Spec Plano cases on that site are $150, yet this Plano case: http://www.opticsplanet.com/plano-molding-aw-tactical-cases-36in-or-42in-black.html is $75-$82 and it is awarded their "best rated product" award with 42 out of 52 reviews being 5 stars (out of 5).
