I'm about to be issued a new Chev. Impala squad car. Due to side impact airbags I will have my AR mounted in a Big Sky rack in the trunk. I might have issues with my quad rail not fitting the rack. I might also have problems due to my fore grip. Any suggestions how to make this work?

Not gonna do you much good in the trunk. But, you gotta do what the rules say.

I know OHP puts them behind the passenger seat and they train to retrieve it from the drivers seat.

Some of them are pretty quick

Is it possible to do an overhead mount in the front seat? My FBI neighbor has his overhead & his heavy body armor over the drivers seat.

Would replacing the quad rail with a tubular design similar to a Troy or Midwest Ind. work? Possibly put the short rail section only where required?

We are T&Eing some racks now, and I know some of them secure/lock over the upper/lower assembly. I'll talk with my partner and get some brands for you.

We were also considering the trunk racks, but thanks to a new cagee design we are putting them between the front seats. ste back a little where the divider bumps back in the rear seating area. The bad guy might not be comfortable, but my riflr and shotgun will.
