I wanted a rifle configuration that was as accurate as possible within 600-meter capability yet still come in at under 36 inches in length.
Reason being is that it could fit within a 36 inch soft rifle case and fit inside of any 36-inch gym-type duffle bag for low-profile concealment. Using a Lewis Machine & Tool MRP (monolithic rail platform) chassis as a base. Specifically the rifle-length chassis model L7RA1A set up for direct-impingement 5.56 caliber. With an 18" SPR-type barrel topped with an Advanced Armament Corporation 51-tooth SPR/M4 suppressor-adapter. A six-position carbine-style buffer tube and an LMT/Crane SOPMOD riflestock. With the SPR/M4 suppressor off of the rifle, and the SOPMOD stock fully retracted, this rifle's overall length comes in at 35 and 5/8's inches...perfect for a 36 inch soft rifle case. The AAC SPR/M4 suppressor adapter is rather long, although the length is mitigated by the fact that a significant portion of the adapter fits rearward over the barrel beyond the muzzle threads. A standard birdcage-type flash suppressor is a quarter of an inch shorter and the AAC SPR/M4 suppressor adapter as measured from the beginning of the threaded portion (thread shoulder). So a telescoping carbine-type stock, an 18-inch SPR-style barrel, and a standard birdcage flash suppressor should get you down to about 35 and 3/8 inches with the stock fully retracted. Well within the maximum 36-inch overall length specified, easily concealed, and very effective to at least 600 meters depending upon barrel/ammo quality and shooter skillset/ rifle DOPE. In my opinion, an SPR (Special Purpose Rifle) should be thought of as a precision instrument. As such, cost is no object when it comes to planning/building such a rifle. My SPR uses a Geiselle DMR trigger assembly with high-speed hammer and match weight spring-set with the second stage pull tuned to be as light as possible (2 and 1/4 pounds). The scope is a Schmidt & Bender Police/Marksman II, 4-16 power variable, 50mm objective, 34mm main tube, P4-fine illuminated first focal plane reticule, adjustable reticule brightness knob, left-side focus knob, and .1 milliradian target knobs with a single-turn-to-1000 elevation turret. This scope is set in a single-piece "Alpha-mount" with 20 moa offset from NEAR manufacturing. I believe this scope/mount combination to be the best money can buy (for up to 1000-meters capability) and pushes the 5.56-caliber to its ballistic maximum while going low enough in the power range for engaging movers and best compatibility with night-vision. My Lewis Machine & Tool MRP CQB-16 Piston has a 16-inch barrel, an AAC SPR/M4 suppressor-adapter and telescoping carbine stock. With the suppressor off and the stock retracted, its overall length is 33 and 3/4 inches. You should have no trouble at all fitting your 16-inch barreled rifle into a 36-inch case. Hope that helps. |

My 16" barrel fits perfect in the VooDoo 36" case.
