Yesterday I ordered one of these direct from I-Shot: SERT TCC 42" Rifle Case

http://www.ishot-inc.com/store/image/cache/SERT-TCC-03-500x500.jpg

And one of these from MidwayUSA: Pelican Storm iM3200

http://www.pelican.com/media/images/cases/cases_iM3200_flash/v1.jpg

The Pelican Storm comes with foam that I can use if I want, but I'll be mainly be using it for airline travel along with the soft case for use at my destination.

I went with the SERT partly due to the extra rigidity offered by the plastic insert, but mainly the PALS webbing in the outer pocket.

It was a close call between the SERT and the LaRue M.O.A.B. but I thought that even though the SERT's outer pocket is smaller than the full-width inner storage on the M.O.A.B., I'd prefer the flexibility of adding my own pockets and pouches. I'll generally have an extra range bag with me anyhow for eyes/ears/other gubbins.

I have both the 30" and 42'" SERT TCC, as well as the larue. No offense to Mark because the MOAB is superb, but the i-shot cases are very simply the finest soft travel cases available today, period.

Case I use for when I fly back and forth between AZ and IN.
TSA approved and very secure.

Does anyone know if the 36" Tactical Tailor Covert Carry Double Rifle Case will fit inside of a Pelican 1700? The dimensions seem close enough to work.

What is the easiest way to cut the foam out without a hot wire table? I've seen a lot of people use electric knives? I just bought a 1700 after I finished my AR (finally) and would like to cut it out nicely. Thanks and amazing set ups here btw!

I have a 1750 on order from Amazon to put my PA10 in.  the rifle is 39 inches long with the stock collapsed.  I hope there is enough room in there to slip an AR in.

My first Pelican case, a 1200. This thing is perfect, I would highly recommend this as a way to carry mags. It will prevent a ton of wear and tear (mostly tear) on my range bags, and it's cheaper than adding a bunch of mag pouches to rifle cases.

Looks like a pelican storm, their "version" of the pelican 1700 size, possibly.

Got around to cutting the foam for my Recce build. I used black Polyethylene foam in a 1700 case.

Layout:

" />
My Cutter...I just jury rigged a wire cutter on a workbench - gave me plenty of room to move the foam around

" />
And the finished project... I left room under the barrel in case I want to add NV or light.

I think I said this before but I quit cutting my foam after my first pelican. Limits your multi use case to one particular setup, the top and bottom foam is enough to secure a rifle, minus the little stuff that rolls around.
