Any opinions on a 3-9x40 Trijicon Accupower for hunting? I'm in he southeast so the shots are usually pretty short. 50-150 yards typically. Mainly concerned with light transmission and clarity more than magnification.

I asked about the Accupower 2.5-10x56 and it was crickets.  There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of usage of the low power Accupower scopes, especially the 1" tubed 3-9x40.  UPS should be at the house today with the 2.5-10x56 that I just ordered, so I should have some comments next week.  Heads up on a great price, Sport Optics has a coupon code that really makes the price competitive.

A friend at work has the 4-16x50 and it is pretty clear and pretty bright at sunset and after. He went with that one because he was scared the 56mm would seem too large. I would go with the 2.5-10x56 for sure but I can get a new in box 3-9 for $375 from a friend that just bought a NF.

I have a 3-9 mil square accupower on my colt 901 and it's a good scope. I got it off Experticity for a great price. I wish I had the 4-16 on a 308 rifle but the 3-9 is solid. The accupoint 3-9 with a triangle is my favorite for a deer rifle.

I have one each 2.5x10x56 and a 4x16x50 both with moa reticle .  both are excellent optics the 2.5x10 is great for hunting where things can get close and the glass is bright at daylight and dusk . I think the 3x9 will work fine for you.

Thanks. Good looking rifles. I went ahead and bought the 3-9x40 and mounted it on my 6.5 Grendel. I don't think I can do much better for $375.

ETA: Which do you like better between the 4-16x50 and the 2.5-10x56 for hunting in the woods? I need a good scope for a bolt gun.

For a woods gun, assuming roughly equal optical quality, I will always pick the scope with the lower magnification range.  Lower mag is much better for close in shots, and realistically how much high end mag do you need for woods hunting?

the 2.5x10x56 hands down for hunting . like I said before it has nice bright glass and is very clear plus if you feel like going to the range and stretching it out it has enough come up in the reticle with out touching a dial to get you out to about the useful range of a 308.

3X9 has always been the consummate deer hunting scope. The Trij should be just about perfect. imo

I like the Leupold 2-7 VX-R scope even more for my 6.8

I jumped on it! I was just contemplating what to put it on. I ended up mounting it to my Grendel and looked through it some yesterday evening. It seems pretty nice. I was in a pretty open area with a good bit of ambient light but dark enough to get an idea of how much light transmission the scope has. I'm really pleased, especially for the money. I think I'll look into that 2.5-10x56 for one of my bolt guns.

I like the VX-R line as well. I have a 3-9x50 on a .308 that I hunt with and I love it. I have other 3-9 scopes but they are for plinking. I was mainly curious about light transmission on the Accupower for hunting because I haven't looked through one.

ETA: Corrected Accupoint to Accupower.

I have the 2.5-10x56 on a .308 bolt gun and it's excellent for hunting.

I had a 3-9 accupoint, it was super light and nice.  I imagine the accupower would also be a great huntiing scope.

375 is big time FO price, I would think.

I just traded mine off because it was on an AR and I don't like those kind of regular scopes on AR's.

I have owned 2 3×9 accounts for a very long time, they are great scopes & will work fine for hunting, learn to use the BAC & you can even use them for fast close in work.
