48 hrs! Did you just use the OE supplied battery or is it a fresh energizer bought here?

Thanks a lot got one on the way. I want get a airsoft rifle so I got this for that, but will test on a AR fist.

So it sounds like this thing is a little taller than other red dots on it's own, I think I read that .83 is a little higher than absolute and .5 is low, will .75 give absolute co-witness? If I have to keep asking then I'll just buy all three damn heights and find out for myself...

I posted pictures on page 2 of this thread of my AR-15 with the low .50 UTG Mount which gives absolute/exact co-witness on an AR-15. Compared to my old Simmons 30 MM Red Dot Sight I needed a 1" Mount to give absolute co-witness with my iron sights. The Fieldsport RDS would fit most pistol rails or weaver rails on a Rugsr 10/22 without any riser. |

Cannot see the rear sight at all. Front sight is visible but doesn't even come close to interfering with dot. If you look closely at my pic you can visualize the dot rising greatly above the front sight. The only thing I added, though not necessary, was a set of Ruger Scope Base Adapter T10 Torx Screws. The UTG super slim 0.75" mount allows for an Absolute Co-witness profile.

Mine came in today. First impressions are pretty good, especially for a $20 red dot.

I'm doing a runtime test right now.
Cheap Chinese flea market battery for the first test. Fresh Energizer battery will be tested next. Open voltage reading new was 3.34V After 48 hours on setting #5, the open voltage dropped to 2.8V. Dot is still plainly visible, and comparing it with another sight the dot looks about the same until you get to settings 10 and 11, and then there is a small difference in brightness. Edited to add: Manual states 2000 hrs on setting #7 with a quality battery. |

I have seven. Two are back up piggy backs, one is primary on a 45/70 bolt action and three are on shot guns. I havnt had one fail yet. Wind, rain, heat, recoil, abuse. Etc.. battery life is 48 hour on a five setting. I was hoping it would be a little better than that. Was that with a good battery or the one that came with the RDS originally? I find the "original" batteries for electronics to be almost dead most of the times. ETA: I'm slow. This was mentioned earlier. |

Has anyone figured out which riser height (if any) gives absolute co-witness? View Quote I just finished doing all the measurements on MY AR. I have an F front sight and a Daniel Defense A1.5 Rear sight. The line of sight is 1.375 inch above the rail. Used a string and machinist scale (ruler). The line of sight of this RDS is 18.25mm (0.719 in) from the top of the rail to LOS. For absolute co-witness I would need a 0.648 in riser. (16.5 mm). There are some 15mm risers on Amazon. Not perfect but pretty dang close. The 0.83in riser is dang near perfect for a lower 1/3 co-witness on MY flat top. It is actually 0.023in mathematically too high, but that is actually to better for me. Works fine LOS with the Iron Sights and gives me a slightly clearer view above the DD rear sight. Bottom Line? You need to measure your iron sight's LOS above the flat top of your rail. Then subtract 0.719 (18.25mm) from that number and that is the height of the riser you will need for Absolute / True Co-Witness. IF the number comes out negative, you need a lowerer. |

That's when you dremel out a section of your receiver's top rail and then epoxy the optic in, right? View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Whats everybody getting the red or red and green sight? View Quote I went with plain red. Has anybody tried to break one or two yet? It sounds like they hold up to recoil well enough. I'm considering getting two more, one to leave outside in the Colorado winter and the other to get dropped off a telephone pole or fed to a dog. Maybe throw it in my work van for a week considering how much that damn thing rattles. |

Got mine in. Trainer Mk18. Stupid clear dot for being $20. Attached File

Developers thoughts. At this price, there's more chance of free real time T&E of a soon to be new released new product.
Lose the blue tint. Make the circle 32 MOA and center dot 1MOA |

I got roughly 8 days, or 192 hours on the cheap flea market battery on setting 5. The dot was still visible in darkened setting but when I took it outside it was not visible even on setting 11.
Fresh Energizer battery is in the unit now. |

Would this be enough for "abuse"/ torture testing?
-Verify zero on a rifle. -Take a 4 foot 2x4, mount a picatinny rail on it and attache the red dot. -Beat it against concrete/throw it down the drive way/freeze it/etc. -Remount it on a rifle and see if zero stays close to the same setting (compensating for remounting variances) -Check for any flickering/battery issues. For 20 bucks I'd say its cheap enough to try. |

Guys the batteries that come with a lot of these units are pure trash. I'm not saying that they may not have shit battery life, but swap out the generic Chinese battery for Energizer/Duracell etc. and see where it goes. I have a bunch of Energizer batteries from work, I will try to do a comparison.
I ran into these last week and said screw it, ordered two. These look like the steal of the century if all you want is a decent mini dot for a plinker, or something for a centerfire range toy. If they work as well as the reviews say they do, I suspect I might order a couple more. |

When I wanted to see how my PA 1-4x handled realistic abuse, I just dropped the rifle slung from the shoulder, let it fall over from leaning up against the truck, drove around with it uncased back in the cargo area on a few FS roads to get to shooting spot, etc. I am not expecting these budget optics to go to war and those tests are accurate for the type of "abuse" my stuff sees. Why people beat on them with objects is beyond me. |

The Truglo Triton 20mm seems to be very similar.
https://dsgarms.com/tgltg8020b appear to be OOS at this moment, but they are only $40 and include low and high mounts. Probably not any better/worse than what you guys are buying - pretty much the same price or a few dollars more - comes with a lifetime warranty. |
|
Damn u guys convinced me to get one got the red one. I seen amazon jack the price up on the utg .83 mount so i ended up spending the extra for the slim .75 mount for a almost absolute co-witness. I hope it lines up decent for my PA 3x magnifier.

Quick question for you guys....
If you go into a dark room and look at the optic from the muzzle end...the end you don't normally look through...can you see the red dot? Idea being would the dot be bright enough to see in the dark on your side of the optic but dim enough to not mark your location from the other side? Thanks |
|
The new Energizer battery lasted roughly 12 days or 300 hrs at setting #5.
At setting #11, the dot is still visible indoors, but is worthless outdoors. |

Bought one when you first posted OP for a budget blackout build.
Just got back from range 2hours ago. 3rd time Ii've had it out. 240rds with it out. Still works!! |

I accidentally hit mine with a wooden mallet and smashed the front lense into million pieces. Couldn't even see through it anymore, but after I took the front end off and made a plastic lense for it, it is no worse for the wear. I probably lost any gas that was in it, no biggie as I doubt I will be using this for anything serious.
And I did drop this unit onto the concrete floor right after I bought it, so a three foot drop and a smashed lense and it still works. I haven't killed it yet. |
|
finally got a chance to mount mine up.
this is a fun cheap set up for putting a red dot on a glock. i'd say the thing works just fine, was hitting steel from 25,55, and 100 yards after initial sight in. Attached File |

Neat yours actually has a logo on it? Mine has none at all (which is kinda nice)
Dead after about 80 hours on 5. |

How is the green working for the guys who got them?
My eyes play better with green. Are these all plastic or metal? Dot size? Edit: reread thread 4moa. Thanks |
