I bought a Bushnell AR Optic 1x-4x off of Amazon for $117. All I can say is wow. I wanted a 1x-6x, and almost bought the Vortex Optic, but found this Bushnell, and it is perfect out to 200 yards!

You will see a slight ghost image of your fsb at the lowest setting but once you up the magnification it will dissappear. So it is not necessary to remove just a personal preference.

Not sure what you're asking. With 4x magnification, you're not going to be able to see bullet holes at 2-300 yards no matter what scope you are using.  The Bushnell glass is very clear, however, so unless you have really bad eyes, you should be able to see things with the scope well past 1000 yards.

My only gripe with the AR Optic is that it's a bit on the heavy side.

Which model did you get, the AR91424I with illuminated reticle or the discontinued non illuminated?

I have this scope (the non-illuminated one) on a budget 16" upper.  It's surprisingly good for the money.  Farthest I've taken it out to was 375 yards, but the BDC was close enough to ring steel at that range.
