Looking to buy this scope, i loved the Burris 1x5 XTR2 but i had to send it in twice for illumination failure... third time..I'm done with Burris ( damn shame, their original xtr 1-4 was great).  Is the Steiner version a step up in quality and clarity?  I know it's made in the U.S as opposed to the Philippines with the Burris.  It jumps up the price over $600. Is there a tangible difference?

i don't have any experience with that Steiner i have their 1-4 German built one that is fantastic. but from what i have read the american made Steiner's are not that great. and just so you know Burris and Steiner are both owned by Beretta.

I would highly recommend the German made Steiner 1-4 on sale at euro optic for $699.00.

I have one.  It is, hands down, the best optic I have ever shot, and I have shot Leupold, Vortex, Nightforce, Burris, Bushnell, Trijicon....

SUPER Clear glass, easy switching between magnification levels, intermediate-off-on rheostat, excellent, fast reticle, and TRUE 1x, which is great for my astigmatism.

I've had it over a year now, and I never want to shoot another variable.

I bought a steiner military 1-4 and it was nice but had a few issues.

Glass was very clear
Fov was large but not as large as advertised I believe
Reticle is nice for is plenty bright

Illumination settings were odd, after the scope sat in an off position it took a few tries of scrolling the dial to get it working again. Once on it worked perfectly for hours.

With my eyes I usually have the diopter adjusted most if not all the way in and it works well at all ranges.

With this one I found that on 1x to get rid of distortion and have a clear reticle the picture in the edges of the glass was blurry at distance. Vice versa if I made a 200 yard view on 4x clear with the diopter dialing back to 1 did not look right to my eyes.

Can't say if this is truly a problem with the scope I'm no expert but that's what I noticed.

I think the other reason youre not getting a lot of response in this thread is that they have been unobtanium for a while.  I know a guy, and got a great deal on a pre-production model.

Just from that pic I can tell the 1x is better than the Burris version, the burris version has a bit of fisheye at 1x. Thanks for the input. Burris won't give me a refund for thd lemon xtr2 1-5 so I guess I will upgrade to the Steiner.

Got the Steiner t5xi 1-5. It seems like a nice scope going by cursory inspection. Nice features the Burris version doesn't have. Great illumination and overall reticle. Scope is built like a tank and has great glass. Came with a quick adjust attachment. So far , so good. If this scopes illumination proves reliable it should prove to be a nice  0-500 yard scope.

The Steiner lifetime guarantee is a nice touch.
