I just recently started my first AR15 build. I've got an Aero Precision lower and parts kit and a Sterling Arsenal PRPR upper, charging handle and BCG. It has a quad rail hand guard and the front A post sight. I'm looking for something more than just the magpul flip up and front sight, trying to keep it halfway cheap though.

Any suggestions?

If you are looking for a red dot, I'd look into the SPARC 1 from palmetto state armory. It's usually on sale for 119.00 plus shipping. Great red dot for the money. Its a 2 MOA dot and holds a zero perfectly.

Thanks doc I'll check PSA out. I have watched and read a lot of reviews on their products and they seem to have pretty reliable stuff for an awesome price. Definitely a good place for a budget AR build.

Lucid HD7 seems to be a good set of optics.  I can't go into much details since I haven't really used it that long.  Shot a buddy's AR with the HD7 and really liked it so I researched it to get a set for myself.  Don't seem to see any bad reviews on it and the price is awesome.

What are you looking for? Optic covers a large range from scopes, to RDS, to magnified, to holographic?

Primary Arms is a good place to start.

Whats your budget and what type of sight do you want?  If looking for a red dot, Primary Arms, Bushnell TRS-25, Vortex Sparc and Strikefire are all solid options under $150.  The PA and Bushnell can be had for <$100.  If you're looking for a more traditional scope, Nikon has some good options for the AR at decent prices.

The vortex strikefire seems to be ther best option for me right now as I am just looking for a red dot right now but, I will definitley check out nikons when I am ready for a scope. Thanks everyone for the advice.

I agree.  The HD7 is great.  I've been running one for over two years and love it.  Very stout, rubber armored, great set of extra features that are useful.

But, I actually prefer its "little" brother, the Lucid M7 microdot, at 4.6 ounces or so.   It has all the same features, except that it has only one reticle choice.  But that is the best one anyway.   It is an EOTech type circle dot.  A fine 2 MOA center dot is surrounded by a 25 MOA circle, for rapid target acquisition.   It will need a small riser, like the TRS-25.  They are the same height, so a riser for one will produce the same cowitness as for the other.

I am running two M7's now.  One is on a 12 gauge tactical shotgun, and has been impervious to heavy recoil.  They sell for about $189 delivered, or a bit less by shopping around.

Here is a good review.

Lucid M7 Review

And here is an M7 in a ADM QD true return to zero mount on my carbine build.  QD is to permit swap with a QD mounted scope.

Primary Arms makes the best sub $200 red dots available. Hands down.

For Low-cost reds I gotta go towards Holosun. They make the top level low cost optics for Hi-lux , Primary Arms and themselves right now.

No one mentioned the Bushnell TRS-25.  Love mine.

Its great for short range.  The dot is big for longer range (obviously a red dot isnt for really long range but at 100 the dot is a little fat).

Holds zero, and has no trouble with what little recoil a 5.56 produces.  I have one on my turkey gun which has serious recoil and it hasnt had any trouble

You can get one for about $80.  My two cents.

Lucid HD7 imho, but there are many other good budget red dots as well

My $0.02

Bushnell TRS-25 is a great value, and a very light weight unit with a bright dot.  Downside is the dot is not especially crisp, so accuracy work is more difficult

Bushnell 730132P "trophy" 1x32 AR optic is another decent option for ~$100.  I like the T-dot reticle, and I like the built-in pistol type sights for applications which have no iron sight provision, such as my 7.5" SBR.

On the very low end cost-wise, the UTG 3.9" sight (~$50) is actually a decent little unit, with a nice clean reticle and lockable turrets.  I have one, it has held zero and always stays on (sometimes an issue with cheaper RDS).  It does use a different button cell than the standard CR2032, though.  1620, IIRC.

All of those, of course, I'd consider plinking sights.  I wouldn't want them on a rifle that's gonna see really had use.  That's what Aimpoints are for.

Not quite as budget friendly, but the Burris Fastfire micro sights are also pretty good.  The Fastfire III is down to about $220 these days.

Marshall sent me a new sight when my second hand, 2-3 year old red dot failed.  I didn't even ask, he heard about my failure and contacted me.

I have a Weaver V3 on 2 carbines and like the 1-3X power and the clear glass on them. You can find them about $180 or less. I also have a F3 and TRS-25 w/high rise on pistols. The red dot's are nice, but the V3 duplex cross hairs are my choice on a carbine.

This is especially true if you have an astigmatism, which I do.

However, If I do the finger pinhole camera then the dot is really crisp for me,
so I don't think it's a product quality issue.
