I have a $1000 budget and am losing sleep trying to decide what optic to buy for my ar15 build.  What would you guys buy? Suggestions?  Rifle will be a general purpose/all around rifle.....with good cqb capability.   I have looked at aimpoints, eotechs, and some 1-4 power scopes.  I liked the vortex viper PST 1-4 but have concerns about its brightness in daylight (but it is all within my budget which leaves room for a good mount).   Any help through this process would be appreciated!

I have had aimpoints, eotechs, and now have a Vortex Viper PST 1-4 in a Larue SPR mount.  The eotechs and aimpoints are great for close up.  I also use my rifle for hunting and wanted some magnification, but didn't want to use a magnifier (bulky, off-center weight).  I purchased the Viper PST 1-4 and so far its been great.  The only thing I'm not 100% sold on is durability.  I haven't had any problems, but I would like to see a torture test to see what this optic can take.
Like you, I was worried about the day time illumination.  For me it did not bother me, if its sunny enough where I can't see the red glowing optic, it shows up black and I can see it just fine.  Once it clouds over and gets darker the red shows up.  I've never owned a Nightforce, but I've heard even those don't have daylight illumination.

Lots of great options, all over your budget.

I'm becoming more of an Elcan fan after having used EO/AP and ACOGs for years.

I should add that I'm also considering an acog or browe combat optic, though they are a little out of my price range but I could make it work if the pros outweigh the cons for each

Yes, they are very nice. You should be able to come in under budget as well.

I've seen Steiner Tactical 1-4x24 go for under $1000. They are a little on the heavy side but far superior to any optic mentioned here. I run a 3-12x56 and 5-25x56 and they are the equivalent of S&B optics. The new 1-5x24 goes for $2600 and the only difference I've seen is the extra zoom, reticle and glass are still the same.

Burris XTR 1-5x and a case of ammo.

What's Jerry Miculek and Co. Use?  When I saw them shoot in July, they all had the same optic for steel near and far. It looked like a Vortex of some type with a cat-tail on it. Probably a 1X4? They were dinging them plates from 50 to 400 yards..

I would go with a decent 1-4x or possibly a 1-6x from Vortex or other comparable manufacturer that isn't too bulky (if such an item exists). I would personally kind of like a scope like the latter i mentioned because it would allow me to effectively shoot as far as I need to with a 5.56 here in FL for hunting purposes. My only issue with the 1-6x's last time I looked was the bulk and price difference over the 1-4x's, but its been a while since I just said screw it and bought an aimpoint pro until I have a bigger reason (and wallet) to get a decent variable optic.

Several good Low Power Optics (1-4x thru 1-6x) available in that price range.

Look at some of the offering from Leupold, Vortex, and Primary Arms.

Not a bad scope but never liked the JM reticle. They were supposed to come out with a whole range of new reticles but I'm still waiting.

I still say that if you an find a Steiner 1-4x24 for under $1000 (which I've seen), it blows away any of the optics mentioned hear. It is truly high end glass at a steal, comparable to the best high end offerings out there.

Leaning towards the Meopta zd 1-4x. Anyone know how Meoptas cs is? Or their durability? ACOG is still in the running , assuming I can find one under $1000.  Other scopes I am still considering are the xtr, tr24, and the Steiner if I can find it for $1000 .....will likely be a week or two before I can make the purchase

no one is going to say trijicon acupoint 1-4? Flippen love mine. Bright day and night, no batteries under budget and not made in kazikstan.
