Used your hold-overs, after zeroing with the 77gr, on Friday. They were right on. Surprisingly close to M193, actually. Thanks for your service.

this is an outstanding thread. thank you so much for the wealth of info.

if i have a nightforce with an FC3G reticle, what's the closest approximation to the data here? they recommend a 200 yard zero and i'd be using M193 / M855 out of a 16 inch barrel. the reticle is supposedly optimized for most 5.56 ammo. forgive my ignorance as i'm new to this and i'm trying to get up to speed as quickly as possible.

I actually did this one for my self when I was considering an NXS 1-4X.

On these the blue is where your rounds will hit at each distance. The measurement is how high I would suggest zeroing at 100 so that your trajectory matches closest all the way out to 600 or at least out to 400 and still be somewhat close at 100.

Once you decide what ammo and distance of zero you are going with, I can make you a holdover chart. Having your exact velocity and altitude will help.

Have been noodling on this reticle and my old EOTech 557 for a while.  Not sure the tool you are using, but I was trying to back out from my ballistics calculator which of the smaller dots to use for extremely close shots (< 10 yds) to account for the sight over bore off set.  Any guess?  I was thinking just based on how it looks through the reticle that perhaps the bottom of the chevron.

I never thought about that before, so I just did a quick experiment. I put two lines 2.6" apart (the bullet distance from the POA at 3m with a 100m zero) and aimed my TA02 at it from 3m away. The bottom line was more than twice as far from the 100m mark as the 600m mark. It ended up being close to a match from about 10m away. This is also about where my ballistic calculator says the 600m near zero would be.

WOW!   Just went down to the basement to check that with both an ACOG and my Holosun with ACSS.  Seems like that is a lot farther than I thought.

At 7yds it match up with what you said for the ACOG, and the ACSS was basically at the bottom of the horse shoe.  This was holding over at the top of a standard IPSC target to get an "A" zone hit, which is typical for my rifels from some of the shooting I've done.

This thread is fantastic! M16 targets will be great for referencing with my Delta HBAR.

Any possibility of M80 out of a 16" with a 50 yard zero for us AR-10 platform folks? EOTech reticle would be my preferred one.

I can probably do that. I need to find solid data on M80 first and I should probably re-upload everything since there are some errors.I'll do a red dot first and then the Eotech later.

Can you do a computation for M855A1? 50m-500m? Combat EIC Target (Xring is slightly higher than COM)

265y Zero
TA01 and TA31FM150RCO - M4 - standard sight height - also, M16A4 (20" barrel with rifle sights)
BC of .292
MV 3149
Projectile length of .995"
62gr

I can probably do that. Is that velocity for the 20"? Is this https://shop.actiontarget.com/content/nra-eic-e-silhouette-combat-target.asp the target? What is your POA mark on the reticle for the 265 y zero?

Yes, I chronoed 855A1 from a 20" M16A2, FN barreled.

Yes, that is correct target.

At 200y, I hold the center of my TA01 (or tip of the chevron on the TA31) on the bottom of the 5 ring.  At 300, I hold the top of the 5 ring.

I really appreciate the work.  I have been struggling on how to have the target sized accurately at that range.

Could I trouble you to do a computation for me? I am teaching a new shooter and she's not understanding the purpose of hold overs/unders. She has a 14.7" barrel with M193 and carbine iron sights. We are using Alt-C targets so Army qualification targets would be great. I would totally print these out and hang them in our house so she has to look at them.

Edit: 250m zero, as per A1 sight system.

If you supply a velocity it would help but I can just get a general 14.5" M193 fps. I can make a graphic like the qual references easy enough. I can also send you a PDF of that and the ALT-C that has the regular black silhouettes with an additional offset outline where their bullets should hit when aiming at the correct spot.

Thanks, you're the greatest!

According to This thread, it looks like 2950 fps is a good guess for muzzle velocity for M193 out of a 14.5" bbl.

I don't think I'm understanding right. Here's what I'm seeing in Strelok with a 265y zero for the center of the reticle.

Do you want the stadia lines to closely match actual distances? If you zero 300y POA/POI it looks more like this:
