For those who own one of these scopes.

On 1.25 can you shoot both eyes open?

How do you like the recticle with fire dot?

Over all impressions?

I don't own the patrol model but I do own the vxr 1.25-4 with the fire dot 4 reticle and a LaRue LT 104 mount. It is a great setup and I love the fire dot reticle. I can shoot it with both eyes open, just a very little amount distortion. The vxr has super clear glass and well worth the money. I love mine and would not trade another scope for it under the 1k mark. Hope that helped

...and mine. I don't find a problem keeping both eyes open on 1.25x at close range. When I got it I was concerned that the reticle is considerably thicker than that on my mildot Mk 4's that I am used to, and I thought it might obscure too much of the target at 500yds. First time out in competition it turned out not to be a problem at all on Fig 11's at 500yds, and I really like the Firedot. The reticle/dot combination is very user friendly at move & shoot/CQB type stages. I would prefer a rotary rheostat, with interim 'off' positions rather than having to cycle through the brightness settings by continually pressing the button. Only other thing is I think it's a shame the turrets are secured by three small Allen screws, rather than just the one like M1 turrets. It is supposed to be a tactical scope after all, and they are a bit fiddly.

I'm being really picky here though, overall I am very pleased with it, great little scope, and now I can talk in mils as well..

I've got about 5k rnds downrange with mine now.

No problem shooting both eyes open.

I really like the spr reticle with illumination.

I'm happy with mine it's what i thought it would be. I don't think i'll ever be red dot fast up close with it though.

I would also like to know if anyone has compared the Duplex firedot vs the #4 firedot reticles in the 1.25- 4 VX-R line......

I have, I choose the #4 over the duplex, due to the # 4 fire dot being easier to pic up and in my option a tad bit more

Max brightness setting

I have been wondering that since I have not ran mine out yet. So I called leupold tech support and asked that question and i was told it is the same illuminated system as the vx-4 and on middle setting it is rated 300 hrs minimum, He said at max power it will be 40 hours but since the system will turn its self off after 5 mins of no movement use, and won't turn back on til you move the optic, it will take a while for that to run down. The motion activation system is really neat IMO. So you turn it on, set it next to bed and forget about it, and when ever you pick it up, it will automatically turn itself on. Cool idea. Hope that helped.

Well I got my Vx-r patrol in the mail yesterday. Beyond impressed––super clear to the edges, the firedot is clear and clean, able to use with both eyes open. Fantastic scope for the cash. Now I just have to look into reading mils!

I have been trh\ying to decide if I want this, the 2-7, or the 3-9x one. Anyone have experience with the others? I will be putting it on a 16" .308.

Man for a 308 it would be a shame to restrict it to a 4x. 2-7 maybe better?

Th Patrol is available in 3-9 - I have one on a FAL in mil/mil. Glass is good, not great - it's easy to see the difference at long range (>600M) when compared to a NF. No surprise there. I'm happy with it for the price and it fits my needs well for this rifle at the distances I shoot it (generally < 600 meters).

The VXR is available in 2-7. IMO, the circle seemed a little small on the one I briefly looked through, but I did not actually run it. YMMV.

I got my VX-R patrol last week and shot my first 3-gun match with it yesterday at a local club here. The scope worked great. Although during my first close up stages I was a little disoriented shooting with both eyes open, but once I got going it wasn't even noticeable. I'll attribute the brief dis O to the fact that I am so used to shooting thru a 1x red dot, and this is the first scope I've used in this fashion.

As far as the scopr goes, I've never owned a scope of this quality. All my life I've been happy with low to mid priced scopes. Well thats over now. Time to open a scope account

That is what I have been thinking, that or a 3-9x. In a qd mount I can always pull it off and put on the M2 Aimpoint.

The VX-R Patrol 3-9x40 is my next scope for my Grendel. Been fighting the urge to order it all day.

I just got mine in the mail a few days ago, couldn't be happier with it.

While I was shopping for a 1-4x to try to get into some basic 3gun comps for fun I kept running into the same problems when looking through scopes, either the reticle was too busy for my liking or the price was way out of my reach. Im in love with the SPR firedot and the quality of the glass for its price, no picture I've seen online really does it justice, its just one of those things you have to see in person.

My "patrol" just shipped. The 1-6 above looks nice. I wonder how much it will cost, and if they will stick the cmr-2 reticle in it. I am going to send my CQ/T in for the CMR-2, which it should have had in the first place.

Just picked up one of these and got it out to the range over the weekend. You should go ahead and give in. You won't be disappointed.

The. Vx 6 is around 8-900 depending on what you get from what I have seen.

I'm guessin' the VX-R 1-6 X24 will be a bit cheaper than the VX-6 1-6 X24 but for a quality true 1X-6X with a lit reticle anything under a grand "ain't too shabby".

Hopefully the VX-R stays light weight.

I have a pretty decent scope on the Grendel right now, so I am trying to delay the VX-R purchase in favor of other things right now. I will get the VX-R sooner than later however.
