i am having the same debate. I'll prbly go with eotech due to the reticle and my type of shooting. For what my shooting buddy and some family members in the military suggested the eotech, one even switch over to the eotech instead of the aimpoint when deployed. Not i am sure you can not go wrong with either.

Reticle differences... which one do you prefer? Also battery life, I'm not sure what the bat life is on the eotech. Last time I checked they can't even be compared. Have you shot with both on rifles? I myself prefer the aimpoint due to the battery life and reticle. I find the eotech's reticle is way too busy for me and battery life is a must for me. I dont want to have to worry about taking the optic out to find out it's dead and being able to leave it on just in case I forget to turn it off.

Aimpoints are reliable and their battery life is great. The PRO is a good deal with what you're getting for the price. On the other hand, if you like EOTech's ring/dot reticle, and don't mind changing batteries more often, then get the EOTech. All is personal preference; I prefer Aimpoints.

battery life on the newer Eotech's I think is 600 hrs and on the Aimpoint PRO is 30,000hrs. I liked the Eotech reticle more at first but I didnt like the buttons to turn up and dim the reticle brightness at all, they just seem like a "weak" point. Also, it takes quite a few bumps on the button to get it up to a brightness where it can be used. The Aimpoints brightness knob is ALOT better...it a knob with solid clicks for each brightness setting. After looking at the reticles of BOTH the Eotech and Aimpoint I decided that the single aiming dot was better for me and I believe the Aimpoint is more of a SOLID/ TROUBLE FREE sight.....I couldnt be happier with my PRO. I LOVE IT !!

Received my Aimpoint PRO today. Very nice sight for the money. Had an EOTech several years ago and liked it too.
Battery life and issues tipped my decision toward the Aimpoint.

EOTech's battery life is something like 1100 hours now. Not as good of course, but still acceptable.

If your EOTech took a few bumps to get up to a usable brightness, there was probably something wrong with it (like gas leak). EOTechs are insanely bright. On maximum brightness it actually hurts to look at, which I did not notice at all with an Aimpoint.

At this point in time, both sights have benefits and pitfalls. The Aimpoint obviously uses more mature technology, which means you get better battery life, but it also means that the technology is less capable. The EOTechs have better reticles, better glass, etc.

It totally depends on what you're looking for. I recommend trying both and seeing what you like.

Well right now i have an Eotech knockoff and love the reticle (except that because its a knock off it is not bright at all). Ive never looked through an Aimpoint but its just a dot like all the flimsy regular red dots so i think i could deal with it. The thing that im concerned with its battery life and how well either could take a hit. Obviously the aimpoint wins the battery life hands down (granted the battery is $50) but does it stand up to the Eotech in strength?

i currently own the PRO and I used to own the 512. I didnt like the controls on the 512, much less having to turn it on and off. I definitely like the idea of not messing with buttons if I need my AR.

I went with the PRO myself. I was in this same predicament. The aimpoint battery life just tipped the scales in that direction. I used my friend's eotech and the reticle was just too much up close.

Mayo, what are you talking about $50 for a battery? The battery the aimpoint uses is around $6 on amazon.

I originally bought a 512 because I liked everything about it- the design, the reticule, the AA batteries, etc. But then it began draining batteries without even being on, and as I researched it, I learned that problem is all to common. That's just unacceptable to me for an optic of that price. So I sold it for a PRO. I don't like the dot as much, but at least I know it has a stellar track record.

The Aimpoint PRO is probably the best new optic on the market. It's almost identical to their comp ML3 without the extra 20,000 hours of battery life. You don't change your battery for 3 years and you leave it on. Very nice indeed. I love the Aimpoints reticle choices too. I sold all 3 of my previous Eotechs and have'nt look back. The 556 & 512 weighed more, the one I had on the Bushmaster was about 2 ounces more than what my Aimpoint PRO is..I may be getting picky over 2 ounces, but it's still 2 ounces.

I also run a little Bushnell trs25 that is simply amazing because of the abuse I have given it and it still holds zero. I put this on the lightweight build I did and it is awesome also.

OK, first off, the battery is a lot less than $50.

Many will tell you that Aimpoints are tougher. I'm not entirely sure about the accuracy of this, but they are by no means lower quality than EOTechs.

Many of the problems people have with EOTechs are from the old models. The newer models are much better, especially the ones where the batteries are mounted sideways.

The Eotech just works better with my "Eyes" and the HWS system allow me better focus while training/Shooting. Like everyone says you have to try each one.

If you have battery plus near by, battery for the pro is more like under $5. As far as which would take a hit more than the other... they are both used by leo/mil so that shouldn't be an isue with either. I've had an eotech in the past and messing with the controls and the method of controls vs a knob was a turn off for me. Especially batter life. I say go for the pro, you will not regret it.

Also it is setting 7 that will last up to 3 yrs/30k hrs. Any other setting is only suppose to last a matter of months with the exception of nv mode. I read a thread online somewhere, someone was having major battery usage issues and aimpoints response was exactly that on their email....

Sold my Eotech for Aimpoints and never looked back. I like the Aimpoint simplicity, durability, and battery life. For me, a dot is better.

How about $3.49 for a DL 1/3N.

I think there is no contest.

The Aimpoint PRO has:

A quick attach/release mount

Is NV compatible

Tremendous battery life

Can be left powered up

Faster controls

Lens covers

Recessed lenses

Waterproof to 150 ft

I own two slightly used 512s by the way... along with several earlier model Aimpoints. I don't own an Aimpoint PRO, yet....

Okay, so you guys have done an amazing job selling the pro to me. haha Probably gonna go with that one. Just one more question. Is it bright enough to be seen in desert sun light? I live in las vegas, nv so i just go shoot in the desert and for a HUGE majority of the year it is clear skies and INCREDIBLY bright out.

Yes, especially on the highest setting, which Aimpoint calls "extra bright." Many of the lesser brands lack the intensity level for such conditions.

The Aimpoint website says:

One 3V Lithium battery, type 2L76 or DL1/3N

DL1/3N $0.76

Mr_Mayo, I'm not trying to offend you......

But why do people post in the the "technical" forums when they have no clue what they are talking about? Please look things up next time so you don't spread misinformation or lead people to make the wrong decisions.
